2014 new Gaslight Anthem album news (pre-details)

i hope they don't cut out too many, i've yet to hear an underwhelming gaslight song IMO

18 songs would be ok for me too. Can't wait!

I'd love to hear all 18 at some point...but lengthy albums need to be GREAT to justify their length.  I'm thinking like Blonde on Blonde great, or The River, London Calling, The White Album.  Me personally, give me 10-12 songs that are the absolute best.  Then leave the rest for a future outtakes album or for B-sides.

The 18 songs don't necessarily foretell a long album. Some will be saved for b-sides, and some will probably not make the cut.

Don't forget, Springsteen wrote 70+ tracks for Darkness..., and only 10 made the album.

However it's good news that they're productive and hopefully the quality is good.

They started recording Handwritten in late January 2012, and we got our hands on it in mid-July. It would be good the new one follows a similar timetable.

I think it's pretty likely we won't be getting 18 songs on the new album...it takes a lot to make an album that length work (I'm the guy that still thinks 'The River' should have just been one album.) What I do hope though is that we hear all of these songs in some way...whether it be like others have said as B-Sides or on other releases.

I agree with you, I like the 12-13 songs albums better most of the time, but I'd like to hear all of the 18 songs on bsides or something like this.

Dude, I agree 100% about The River. And album that's half great, half meh is not fun. I'm with those who are saying, keep the other songs but save them for B-side type releases.

yeah, a great double album is definitely never AS great as a great single album, like pretty much no matter what the double album, the River probably being the best I've heard, there is always some extra fat that coulda been cut out

They recorded Handwritten Jan 23 - Feb 18 and released it 23 July. So if they're in the studio in the next few months, a summer release shouldn't be out of the question.

I need to write about the Gaslight dream I had last night.
So I was watching TV and the program was interrupted to air a two song Gaslight special of them performing live in a studio for a small audience, Brian was sitting on a stool with an acoustic guitar, to his left was Alex R seated at an old looking grand piano, one roadie was playing an organ grinder next to the piano, Benny was playing drums behind them, Alex L and Ian were seated playing bass and acoustic guitar next to each other and there was another person playing electric guitar. The song sounded a lot like Tom Waits and the Afghan Whigs and was called "Magnificent." They announced after the song that the album was coming out on 10.19.14 and was called Halloween. I woke up before they played the second song.
It was so exciting haha

How scary would that be if everything in your dream was correct? Are you THE prophet of the Gaslight Anthem?

Neither, it's a rehearsal. A lot of bands rent out a studio by the hour because that's where they can get the best sound to hear themselves, as well as possibly a free recording of the session.

The guys are getting some writing/demos done today!
