It's common sense not to. It's been long-forgotten because people don't want to post in those threads.

You don't seem to understand what I'm getting at. I wanted a thread for a book club. That's different to just a thread on what you're currently reading. No-one else seemed to care that there was a somewhat similar topic 3 years back because mine had a different aim. It seems like the admin power is being used for the sake of using admin power. That's not what it's meant for man.

its not about using admin power for the sake of it...I didn't merge this thread nor did I ask for it to be merged.

if you want I can change the name of the read to book club or something. Andrew didn't delete your post so Its not like you can't continue book club type conversation in this thread.

How about if this thread just continues as recommendation and talk about random books, and if and when we get something decided for a book club we have a separate thread just for the book club stuff, strictly limited to the books we decide on? It may seem like a ridiculously short thread for a while but once it get's going and different books get covered I'm sure it'll be sustainable. How does that sound for the two of you?

We'll take it a day at a time man, Try it out using this thread, and if it gains enough momentum I might consider it. I feel it might get confusing/overlap. But I wont rule it out yet.

Oh, and I have renamed the thread 'the book corner', as Camus' title worked quite well.

And on the subject of Camus, I do recomment 'The Plague'; one of the few books I have read twice.

I am currently either going to start on Heart Shaped box, or Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Still stuck between those two.

You should read it, Steph! It's a truly amazing book. It's not zombie and boogeyman scary, it's real life scary. Jimmy gave a great description of 11/22/63. It really makes you think about what you would do in certain situations if you had the opportunity to change the past. It's a little scary to think about how every single little thing a person does can affect the world in unmeasurable ways. There are several twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat too. It's a must read!

I've never read any Stephen King but I read the inside flap of 11/22/63 a while back at the book store and it sounded really interesting.

It is. You should give it a try! I had the hardest time putting it down, and when I did, I couldn't stop thinking about the story and where it was going.

So far this year, I've read Henry James' Daisy Miller, Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson, and Stephen Crane's Maggie: A Girl of the Streets (1893 edition). I HATED Daisy Miller, mostly because of Daisy's characterizations and Winterbourne is such a fucking prick. Pudd'nhead Wilson is a very interesting commentary on the Antebellum period South, though there are some anachronisms in it (Twain wrote it in the 1890s, nearly 30 years after the Antebellum period). Maggie: A Girl of the Streets would have the be my favorite one because it's very action based and gritty. It's also very much unfiltered and shocking for a book for that era. Well, the 1896 version is censored, but whatever. I highly recommend it if you're interested in dark, familial dramas.

I'm about to read Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, which I've heard good things about, but I'm still undecided about Hemingway's work. (I disliked Hills Like White Elephants when I first read it.)

okay, okay! i will put it on my "to read" list. that element of just realizing how everything you do impacts so many other things ...interests me.

I decided to reread Nightmares and dreamscapes by Stephen King- a bunch of short stories he wrote, up to 1994.

I haven't read Nightmares and Dreamscapes. How freaky is it, compared to his other books?

It's a collection of his short stories, so there are some interesting ones in there. None of the chills of some of his other stuff....Among them are stories about Chattery teeth with spats, The legends of Rock and Roll coming back to life in a town called rock and roll heaven Oregon, a writer meets his creation, and many others like it.

Those sound really good! Maybe I'll pick up a copy at Barnes and Noble today.

If they have it, get it..Personally my favorite collection of short stories from him. It also spawned a TNT series a few years ago.

I remember that the show was on, but I didn't watch it since I hadn't read the short stories yet. Was it any good?

Pretty close to the stories, but there were some that were from different books (Road virus heads north was from everythings eventual, battleground was from different seasons, Autopsy room 4 was from everything;s eventual as well). But overall, the shows were spot on to the book version.

I think I will buy the book if the store has it. My bosses need to give me a raise so I afford all the books I want to buy! That's not going to happen though...sigh.

That is why I like short stories...I get 24 stories for 24 dollars.

Has anyone read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers? So good.
