| Doesn't Brian already pull all of his songs from his life stories and experiences? If he is considering it different, it will be interesting to see how so. I really like how both Gaslight songs are both fairy straight forward but still abundant with imagery and lyrical devices that give them far more depth than the average pop song, so I hope they don't kill that balance. Now we just need to wait for June 15th. edit: actual interview here: http://www.expressnightout.com/content/2010/01/brian-fallon-the-gaslight-anthem-black-cat.php The quote in fuller context: - Quote :
- There are no names and none of the old stuff. I feel like I've said a
lot of what I had to say about that old stuff. I'm moving on. ... ['American Slang'] is a hyper-literal album. These stories are coming out of my life and the reflections on the things I've gotten as I've gotten older. It's more autobiographical, definitely more direct. Not so shrouded in mystery. I'm not trying to confuse anyone with a trail of images on this one."
"I think I have a better focus on what to say to people. Now, I have a reason to tell people things, instead of crying on someone's shoulder. I just kind of got ahead on it [life], and I know where it's going. Still strikes me as a little odd for Brian to be saying. I'm sure they'll make it work, and I while I think its good they aren't just sticking with what worked and trying something else, what worked worked so well I'm a little worried.

| Most songs are about people he knows and stories aren't they and influenced by others.
Guessing he's putting his own perspective into them now and his own stories, he's got something to say rather than previously taking their influences and writing about them.

| Sounds like they want to get as far away as possible from the Bruce (and every other classic rocker) comparisions. | |

| I'm glad that Gaslight doesn't seem to be the kind of band that is content to keep on doing what they've been doing. It might mean they make some songs some of us may not like at some point (although i highly doubt that) but at least they're pushing themselves, trying new things, etc. And no doub t, great new things would come of that as well. No matter how good their songs are, eventually it would grow old if they were to stick to the same old, same old. | |

| June 15th huh? I guess I know what my summer record is going to be. haha. By the looks of things, this record is going to be really rad with them pushing the boundaries a bit with regards to their sound. | |

| I don't like the "not so shrouded in imagery" quote as that's one of the things that really stands out to me about Gaslight above alot of the other bands I listen to, is that the lyrics really paint a picture in your head, and the music of every song really helps expand that fantasy landscape. I don't want them to lose that. That to me is what makes them Gaslight.

| I'm not worried. I think the lyrics will be fantastic regardless. And change isn't bad.
I say I'm not worried yet at the same time I am...I can't think of an album I've ever anticipated more than this. TGA are one of the rare times where I find a band I absolutely love in the moment and not after the fact.

| Totally stoked for this album.
I mean it's Gaslight, how much of a drastic change could it possibly be. It isn't like it is going to be an entire album of roller disco or something. And even then, I would probably think it was pure Brian Fallon roller disco gold.
This band can do no wrong in my eyes.
