It's significantly more expensive than bus, generally takes about the same amount of time as a bus, slightly less expensive than a plane, but takes significantly longer...
It's really not all that great... I've taken Amtrak a lot.

Amtrak is probably the worst bang-for-your-buck of any form of transportation outside of like a pedicab or something.

Steel on steel Is better than rubber to asphalt. Economically and environmentally. Plus you gotta remember, Amtrak makes due with a government that is bought by big oil.

I can see it already. On his deathbed, JimmyB's last words will lament his failure to fetishize trains more in the eyes of his peers.

From any practical outlook on the consumer side, the reasons why Amtrak sucks don't matter. All that matters is that it does suck. It's slow and expensive. I could spend $20 to go from DC to Newark or I could spend $140 and only get there about an hour faster.

Have you ever been out to the model train museum in Gibsonia? I'm assuming you have, but if not, it's pretty cool.

I've picked up like 4 different hobbies in the past 2 months and dropped them all within a week or 2. So right now I have some electronics, an Irish tin whistle, a woodcarving knife, and a yoga mat chillin' out on and next to my desk in the absolutely insane mess that is my current living space. I think I'll stay away from the trains for now though, saving that one for the rainiest of days.

I've been able to be fairly consistent in a hobby where I dwell on the past and my poor decisions, I think part of my success has to do with my tendency to keep making bad decisions
