POLL: Favorite song off Get Hurt (initial reaction)

I cannot get over the amount of love Dark Places is getting. I mean, I love that song but it's not even in my top 5 on this album.

Not counting Halloween because we heard it before and this is one of my favorite Gaslight song ever.

This is hard to chose between Rolling n Tumblin, Helter Skeleton, Selected Poems and Dark Places. But I really like all the album. Let's say Rolling n Tumblin.

I'm currently settled on "Break Your Heart" as my like ~special~ one

I think the only track I'm not really hugely into at the moment is Underneath The Ground but Helter Skeleton is just such a huge jam for me. That's gonna be so, so good live.

Dark Places for its uptempo catchy chorus and great lyrics. Just can't get into Stay Vicious. That guitar riff is just so generic sounding to me. I think when they said this album would be a mix of things like Led Zeppelin, this riff is what they were talking about. But it just doesn't work for me.

Halloween is probably one of the best songs on the album it's just been around for a while so people are more excited about the new ones. After 3 listens I've gone for Sweet Morphine

Underneath The Ground. That song kills me.

I prefer the original recording of Hallowen from a few years ago.

I picked 1,000 Years for now.

However, I haven't been able to listen to the "bonus" tracks yet, which apparently means I'm missing out on half the album.

I picked Break Your Heart but it was really hard to choose between that and Helter Skeleton.

I went for 1000 years, but after several listenings I think almost all the songs are on a pretty high level.Maybe just Ain't that shame and Mama's Boys aren't as good as the other ones.And I think Halloween is worse than the previous recording.

What's with the big love for dark places guys? It's probably the safest song on the album, and it has the great "one by one we drifted away" line but idk, not a huge standout for me.

1,000 Years is still my favorite, though Dark Places isn't far behind. I have a feeling this will be an album where every week will reveal a new favorite.

That's exactly how I felt. I agree, it's the safest song on the album and it sounds almost like it could've been bigger. Like it wants to be bigger, but it just isn't. Which is why I don't get why people are calling for it to replace the backseat at a set closer.

I don't think anything should replace Backseat as the closer, but Dark Places is the one song I can listen to on repeat over and over again.  Just kinda makes me happy for some reason.  It's corny but driving to South Jersey Saturday at dusk blasting that song was just amazing.  I was rocking out the entire song, and again when it repeated lol.  Just a fun song to sing as loud as you can to.

Sweet Morphine, & I don't see that changing!

I think Selected Poems is simply amazing.

I read all the comments at once now and I just keep nodding when I read how good Helter Skeleton, Sweet Morphine, Selected Poems, Dark Places, Ain't That A Shame, Underneath The Ground, Have Mercy and Break Your Heart are... which pretty much means I freaking love this album and every day is different. It's touching so many cores for me right now I just can't pick one.

Selected Poems for me. Driving home from work last night, it was that track that made me grin like a lunatic and realise that i'll eventually love this album.

Just a day later and I think Dark Places has become my new favorite.  

I'm also really digging Helter Skelton. That one really hits you after a few spins.

Sweet Morphine might be one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life.

No exaggeration.

I think at the moment I might enjoy Dark Places, Selected Poems, 1,000 Years, and Stray Paper a tad more (my favorite changes almost daily), but there is no doubt Sweet Morphine is the class of the album, despite being a bonus track.

Get Hurt for me. I know we heard it before. Break Your Heart, 1000 Years, Underneath the Ground, Dark Places will probably round out my top 5. Rollin' and Tumblin, Stray Paper, Red Violins and Have Mercy could bump one of those in the long run though. So many good songs to choose from.

I honestly think Halloween is the worst ever GA song. Like so much worse than anything they have done.

If you mean the production then fine, but as for the song itself come on.....workmanlike melody and lyrics above Fallon's usual abilities. Decent wordplay and metaphors that don't totally fall apart upon analysis.
