Favorite "Get Hurt" Lines?

I did a thread like this back in the day and thought I would do one for this album. Ton of good one-liners on this thing. The lyrics are such a huge step up from Handwritten.

Two awesome lines that stick out for me.

"maybe you needed a change, and maybe I was in the way"

"As your black heals kick out the beat of my heart in perfect time"

"Selected poems and lovers I can't begin to name"

I'm gonna stop there, I could keep going on. I REALLY like this album.

Love how this flows.

"There will always be a soft spot in my cardiac arrest, and i will love you until i die from all of this" the whole of 'helter skelton' is just fucking awesome!

"And all my friends wanna get into Heaven, and all I keep thinking is, 'I wish you were here.'"

Practically the entirety of "Break Your Heart," but in particular "And I loved her like fire, until I went insane."

"Oh my love is a plague, ain't that a shame, ain't that a shame."

"One by one and day by day, I became the dark in the places where we lived."

"And it gets pretty late and the stations will change, and the things once in order now seem so strange." and "Maybe you needed a change, and maybe I was in the way.  Maybe some things, they stay, and some things go away."

The entire ending repetitions in "Helter Skeleton" of "And baby, there will always be a soft spot in my cardiac arrest.  And I will love you 'til I die, from all of this." Sounds stellar.

"And all I seem to find is how everything has chains, and all my life just feels like an idiot dream. Selected poems and lovers I'll never see again, and all in all, I'll find that nothing stays the same."

"And the holy vow of the teenage kiss, now we're much too old for this, and I don't feel those kinds of things.  Now don't you cry for me, I used to feel everything."  And the whole "love becomes" end to "Stray Paper."

"I heard about a woman once who did everything ever asked of her.  She died last week and her last words were, 'It wasn't worth it.'"

So yeah, this album was pretty good, lol.

"Tears in my eyeballs" is definitely one of the clunkiest lines Brian has ever written. That being said, nearly the whole album has fantastic lyrics.

I could list lyrics from every song they are all so relatable on this album.

I have mixed feels about this record's lyrics. Some are really great, while others don't make any sense to me (due to a vague and/or non sequitur nature)  or have cringeworthy sentimentality (full disclosure: most of those lyrics, I've seen appear in this thread...)

The line that really pierces me though, and is one of my favorites Brian has written, is "I heard about a woman once who did everything ever asked of her/She died last week and her last words were "It wasn't worth it."

The most mature lyric the man has ever written.

I haven't really had this experience with any other Gaslight album, but for some reason there are certain lines in some of the songs that completely ruin the rest of a decent/ok track for me, and then there are other songs where one or two lines really hit me hard, while the rest of the track is just "ok" :L

So many great lines on this album. A personal favourite of mine is

I changed a change and kept on saying, "one of these days something inside's gonna break, and we won't get it back now, baby"

I also share the general love for And I loved her like fire, until it drove me insane

Quite a lot, but I think the biggest ones that stuck to me were probably

"I've got pills for this, tabs for that, and something that used to resemble a soul"

"Me I'm a tomb, a corpse in a suit, trying to look a little alive"

And probably

"All my love, my love,
Became blood on Stray Paper"

And just the title of Stay Vicious alone is wonderful... I dunno, ever since seeing them live recently my love for that song increased tenfold I think, 'cause it works so well as kick-off.

This really strikes me as to me it represents the innocence me and my ex had before we got together. Now she split up with me the night is not so peaceful and calm like before. The whole song is very personal to me actually. 'Once upon a time I lived the perfect night'. It's an amazing song. Has become one of my favourites on the album now.

This is a really tough question. I think there are a lot of strong lyrics on Get Hurt, lots of heartbreakingly sad ones.

If I had to choose one, I would go with "She said that there will always be a soft spot in my cardiac arrest". For me, it represents how every (serious) relationship that ends leaves something behind in you, something that feels very physical and that you will carry with you the rest of your life.

Having just gone through a break up before the album came out this lyric was so perfect for how I felt at the time, along with "And the things once in order, now seem so strange". Just pretty much summarised everything I was feeling after that break up.
