| Facebook is the real problem. Ever since around 2010-2011 when it started getting extremely popular forums have started dying left and right. It's sad. | |

| It's only been slow because there hasn't been much band activity since the spring tour wrapped. It'll pick up again. | |

I guess. I've only been getting into forums since 2012-ish or so, so that had already started. One thing I did notice is that forum chatboxes have fared a little better on the whole, as did the forums that have said chatboxes. I think, at least.

| So my birthday is tomorrow and for my pre-birthday celebration (since it's a weekend), my friend and I went to the mall and we somehow ended up at Build-A-Bear.
I dressed my bear in blue jeans and a white t-shirt and named it Brian. I'd post the picture, but a photo of a 24-year-old wearing a birthday sticker and holding a Brian Fallon bear does not need to be part of the internet.

Why not, teddy bears and plushies are cool. :p Life's more fun if you have to ask yourself "How old am I again?" every once in a while.

| I'm alive.
I went to a bonfire last night, and am tired. And I have to go to work at 9. Ugh. In other news, I've started doing vocal only covers of songs. I may look at doing some Gaslight. I also put on new strings for my 12 string, and was on vacation last week.

It's too bad Build a Bear doesn't make little teddy bear sized tattoo sleeves.

| D'aww, Teddybear.
Hmm, I've just reached a hundred subscribers to my comic on tapastic (even though I marked it as complete a month ago, but hey, I'm not complaining), but now I can't think of anything to draw for thank you/promo art. I'd guess it'd have to be something featuring the main characters and maybe their dog, but I can't think of or decide anything specific...

| So I got a guitar for by birthday after wanting one for years, and all I have to say is that guitar is fucking stupid. The musical notation for this shit makes no fucking sense. It's like, "Oh, here's the chords; YOU figure out what it's supposed to sound like!"
Everyone says that guitar is easier than a classical instrument like a flute, but they lied. They all lied. I hate this thing. I hate music, I hate the internet, and I hate that the only places in town that give music lessons charge $42 an hour for them. This is retarded and I'm never going to learn to play it.

| join Jamplay or Justin-guitar for cheaper options to in person lessons. If you want more formal instruction then go with Jamplay, if you want a more learn by just playing then go with Justin. But you can't pick up an instrument and realistically expect to be good after a few attempts at it. You can fake it by learning a few chords but it's pretty insulting to think the guitar is "easy". Callous up those fingers and stick with it. | |

| Well obviously I'm not going to be good at it right out of the gate... you have to learn to crawl before you can walk... but when I look at chords written out, it's just:
Am F lyrics lyrics lyrics different lyrics
C G super duper long line of different lyrics
and it's like... how many times do I play each chord? How long are they supposed to be? The musical notation is so bare-bones and you can't play anything unless you know how it sounds. And I know how songs sound, but all I can hear in my head is the melody; I can't focus on what the instrumental is supposed to sound like.

| Rose, I had the same problem in the beginning. Still do, kinda. My recommendation is use Youtube. Let’s say you want to learn a gaslight song for arguments sake. Go to youtube and find as many acoustic performances as you can (by Brian preferably, who knows what people do with their own covers). And then figure out which ones have the best/most close ups of his hands. And watch and listen very closely and you’ll figure out the strum pattern. Then you’ll go do this for another song of his and realize he often uses the same or similar strum pattern. Another tip if you’re learning gaslight songs. Start with stuff off the 1st three albums because pre-handwritten Brian played a lot more simply on guitar. Start with Red at Night or The Navesink Banks. They’re pretty easy. You can do this with other artist as well. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any questions. | |

If you're just going by tabs or online chords, it's definitely helpful to have a recording to follow along with. I like to run through a whole song without my guitar, just listening to the song and following along just looking at the chords. It gives me a bit better sense for the actual guitar part instead of hearing the song as whole. For something more difficult, it helps to run through it line by line or part by part until you figure it out instead of just trying to play through the whole song right away.

| Thanks guys! I think I'm gonna take some real lessons for a little while even though they're expensive, but once I have the basics down it'll probably get easier. I'm not a very good self-teacher, but I'm sure YouTube will help. | |
