that's what i usually think, and this stuff has the weird blastbeats and choppy guitar strokes, but they do it so well and nuanced that it's actually really enjoyable. Try checking out "Dear Sergio" by Catch 22, and if you don't like it, then you'll have only lost 2:31 of your life Wink

Mumford is actually the only Modern band that is a Top 40 group I like. I mostly like the underground artists, the ones who are not world famous...minus country, I like a lot of modern famous country singers. Like Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood etc.

My opinion of Mumford and Sons was great until I thought "If you've heard one Mumford & Sons song, you've heard them all." Unless you can point me in the direction of a song that sounds nothing like their singles?

OK I gave the Ska song a few seconds but it's already not for me right off the bat. It's like a peppy frenzy assaulting my ears and though I wish I didn't hate it, I do.

Country! That's another thing I never saw myself liking. I listen to Outlaw Country on Sirius here and there. Nothing that stands out that I can name offhand, but I can get into it if I'm in the right mood. I think it stems from liking Chuck Ragan/Revival Tour-type stuff.

LOL well I'm not trying to insult you for liking them or anything. I just hear those kind of horns and want to flee.

I like "Time Bomb" by Rancid if that remotely helps you feel better. I suppose that's in the realm? But I'm pretty sure the reason I like any Rancid song at all is cus of my crush on Tim Armstrong. Sad

watching coverage still...fucking coward if he killed himself instead of being taken alive. least they could have done is explain why. although i suppose there isn't any reason that would lessen the pain.

AWWr Shocked i LOVE SKA! or, ok i'm not into it at all, but everytime i hear these horns i feel really happy Smile
maybe that's because i played the trumpet for some years haha

btw: don't know how famous streetlight manifesto are in the US, but as there singer Toh Kay is on the current Revival Tour lineup this may be a way for you to get into ska-punk through the (i'll name it) "gaslight-anthem-scene" and Chuck Wink

I saw Revival twice the other week and did like his set. But probably because it was all acoustic and didn't have the horns that turn me off. I was really impressed with his guitar-playing!

yeah, i saw him on the lineup and remembered his band,
than listened a lot to streetlight manifesto stuff
than saw some acoustic videos with him
than got his album
now i gotta say those songs really sound better without horns and stuff haha Smile

BUT the horns give the ska and especially ska-punk songs so much power - no other instrument could do this feeling for me drunken

I'm not even anti-horn. Lucero sounds great with Scott & Jim adding to the songs. But ska horns sound like an assault on my ears. They're just too...obnoxiously perky. For me I mean. Obviously not a lot of other people.

What?

OK to clarify- ska horns are basically the only horns I don't like.

And yes "so, let's agree on: Lucero + Horns are great"! Although it's my understanding some fans weren't pleased with the addition. Again, to each his own.
