- Yeah... I learned how to knit up at Holden. It's a small mountain community so eventually, when you get board enough, you just kind of pick it up. I've only met three other guys that knit...and all three of them were up at Holden. So, yeah. It's pretty sweet.
(Still have about 14 inches to go on my sister's scarf...but hopefully I'll get it done by St. paddy's day).
Yeah, I've been to Portland a couple times, and through it a couple times on the way to Northern Cali and back. The first time I went there was for a Flogging Molly concert!!! Oh yeah. Go Flogging Molly.
Yeah, the job market does suck and yeah, I could see how that would be tough not having a college degree. Are you thinking about going to school somewhere?
^ You do have a good point there Steph! ...maybe he has a thing for ladies with English accents?! oh, nice! my mom lives in Oregon so i've been to Portland a handful of times, i even considered moving there for awhile. it's a great place.
i'm considering going back to school, but not til i know for sure what i want to do. i've been in and out of school for a few years, so i don't plan on going back til i have a sure plan.
what's Holden? you make it sound like some mysterious community!
wait...ladies with English accents? who are we talking about now?? Ah, that's cool. Yeah, I like Portland. It's a good spot. Good bands usually come and play there. (Like Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly and Rise Against, etc.) It definitely is a bit "cooler" than Arizona. Yeah, you do wanna know what you'd like to do b4 going to college, that's true. Definitely helps. Ah, Holden... it is a pretty mysterious place. Yeah... It's actually a village in the Cascade mountains of WA. It used to be an old mining town, but the price of copper got so low that they couldn't run the mine anymore. So, the village was given as a gift to the Lutheran church. Since about '61 it's been run entirely by volunteers. Pretty cool place really. Just google Holden Village if you wanna find out more. Oh, and the ladies w/an english accent... I was talking about NeverTrustAJunkie... aka Lorraine

| aww, you had to go and mention Rise Against... i'm still sad i missed seeing Rise Against and Gaslight together... wait...but Lorraine isn't British! unless i'm wrong...? but i don't think so. i did google Holden Village! minus the whole religious aspect, that sounds like a cool place! how long did you stay there? | |

| Ah... Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I didn't make it to that one either. Would have been really sweet though. I haven't even seen RA live before. But, I'd imagine it would be pretty sweet. Hmmm... I guess I heard the interview with her and Frank Turner and thought she must be from the accent...? Thanks... Yeah, it's beautiful up there. I was up there for about 9 months. Did a lot of hiking...and learned how to knit. So, I guess it wasn't too bad. This is one of the places I hiked to: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/509/medium/3820image2.jpg There wasn't ice in the lake, but it was pretty snowy cause I went there in October and it's at about 6000 feet.

| wow, that looks beautiful! totally different from the scenery i am used to!
you haven't seen Rise Against? i've seen em...twice now, i think that is it, but yeah, you totally get into the show...so good...and the new(not really new) guitarist, Zach Blair, has so much energy, he totally fits the band. i would LOVE to see them again!
9 months? the link said most people stay for about a week, so i'm assuming you were volunteering there?

| Yeah, that's Washington! We get a bit more rain than AZ. So, it's usually pretty green. haha Although, I have heard of grass growing in Phoenix. Them folks must water their lawns A LOT! haha That's cool you've seen them twice. Yeah, I've seen a few youtube vids and they seem to have a lot of energy. So, I'll have to make it to one sometime...never seen them though. I have seen The Killers a couple times. They're alright. Oh, and Flogging Molly of course. Yeah, I was working as a volunteer up there. Most people do stay for about a week. I guess you can get a bit "stir crazy" staying up there that long. Hence the reason I hiked a fair amount...but I also was able to take breaks and get out of the village from time to time. | |

| i like some of The Killers' stuff, but it's incomparable to Rise Against. rotten apples to oranges.
haha, you didn't go crazy like Jack Nicholson in The Shining? that is a good thing.
EVERYWHERE GETS MORE RAIN THAN HERE AND I HATE IT. nothing makes me happier than a cloudy, overcast day. i think in order to get grass to grow in your lawn here, you have to use some special grass that does not ordinarily grow here, and you must water it constantly...i think people use Bermuda grass here a lot. but i could be wrong. but yeah, the desert has a serious effect on me. it's so goddamn depressing.

| Haha "rotten apples to oranges." That's great! Yeah, I got into them for awhile, but the only song I really like of theirs is Mr. Brightside. Too technoey for me. I'm more into the punk type stuff fo sho. No...didn't go crazy like Nicholson. haha It's funny you mention that tho. I've never seen the movie (I'll have to at some point) but, they have a Spryte up at holden. A big snow cat thing. It's orange just like the one in The Shining. I got to drive it too which was a kick. But yeah, good movie from what I hear. You into scary movies? HAHA... Well, you do live in the desert, technically. Yeah, that could get depressing. I could see that. Yeah, Bermuda grass sounds right. (I used to work for a lawnservice company and they talked about that kinda grass). But, yeah... that's funny. | |

That's great! I didn't get mine today. I guess the reason it takes so long is that I ordered some import stuff as well and they'll ship it all at the same time.
