I heard about that on the news this morning...

So the few hours before songwriting class I was nervous as fuck.

The teacher can be pretty bitter and harsh against those he doesn't know or like, and basically until you impress him he won't like you. The first day of class he said "Most of you will absolutely fail this class", and "Some of you will get to perform at shows outside of class but most of you won't", so I wasn't sure how things were going to go down when I'd play my song.
But I did and he immediately invited me to play at said shows, and I received a lot of praise for the musical arrangement and lyrical content.

I don't really know what kind of shows they are, I think the teacher arranges them in different venues around town and the students get to play at them.

That sounds awesome, John! Your song must be amazing to generate that kind of reaction from your professor. I had a professor like that for College Algebra. I couldn't stand him, but I got an A in the class!

Haha I don't know if it's amazing, I wrote it in a few hours, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Haha, yes! After the final I wanted to yell, "Take that!" and tell him what a jerk he was, but I had more important things to do, like go shopping to celebrate.

Sometimes things that are written quickly turn out to be the best because they are straight from the heart or from a very honest place, not over analyzed or edited too heavily.

I hope you stay healthy! I was teaching a one-year-old class several years ago when a horrible stomach flu hit our school. Talk about crazy! I have never seen such a disgusting mess. *shudders*
