| I know this may be a bit premature since they only have one album, but since there is a favorite lyrics thread for TGA, I thought I'd start one for the Crowes too. Here we go! Like I hurried for midnight/ With slippers of glass and perfect fits. - A fairy tale gone wrong... While she drove we sat in silence/ All I could do was try to breathe. - Can you feel the tension? I've been known to wear a fine black suit and a murder of a tie - Just makes me smile when I hear this, and typically I don't go for guys in suits! I can leave the wound wide open/ Maybe see if I can tough it out/ Let it pour over my head/ All your shame and your history/ And see if I say a thing.../ As it rolls up inside of me. - This one breaks my heart. Sometimes I'm almost level with the ground/ God's gonna trouble the water. - Probably my favorite line(s) in the whole album. When my footsteps have hung in your hallways enough/ For you to be truly haunted. - I have no words, just amazing... | |

| And it's such a shame I heard the wind say this morning Be still my heart, I age by years at the mention of your name What a pity this season Do you remember me, my lover? I don't recognize myself I'm not the man you love Behold the hurricane | |

| My favouite line is definitely
Sometimes I'm up, Lord Sometimes I'm down Sometimes I'm almost level witn the ground
Just pure perfection. Recently I started to cry with the last line.

| Last chorus of "Black Betty & The Moon"
Look at Black Betty what they're tying to you You did the very thing baby that I asked you not to do Now you got yourself caught in this silk spider web I hope the money fills the holes in the place I used to stand
Love the stripped down vocal performance at the end. The man knows how to sing with passion and emotion.

| Basically the entire bridge to Black Betty:
And they want you to doubt, every trust that you've known. And they want to find the holes, in the armor exposed. And they come on whispering, "If you'll just do this for me" Then turn and show their teeth, just before they sink 'em in. And better than described, and deeper the descent, I never thought we'd have to learn to doubt our friends.

Still a perfect line The "sometimes I'm up lord, sometimes I'm down, sometimes I'm almost level to the ground" is from the spiritual song "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen"

Still a perfect line "god's gonna trouble the water", "Sometimes I'm up, Lord, Sometimes I'm down. Sometimes I'm almost level with the ground" and "If I get there before you do, tell all my friends I'm coming too" are all from different spirituals. Given their folk nature, its hard to say "it comes from this specific song" but it certainly all predates Brian Google "Sometimes I'm almost level with the ground" and you'll find plenty of stuff that predates THC

I think it's cool how he has given new life to some of these old spiritual/folk songs.

| A few of my favourite lines
Blood Loss - 'Sirens they come and sirens they leave' Big impact at the end of the song.
Cherry Blossoms - 'And if I drove straight off this bridge only God and my baby would know, I'm sure she'd be laughing conjuring spring with some fella who just said the right thing' also 'All I can do is think about you and miss all your kisses like the Spring'. Lyrically this is my favourite song for sure.

| I saw you walking with him Down the steps that I walked you in
It's not even that great of a line, because of the repetition of 'walked'. But Brian harmonising himself makes it amazing. I mean, he even makes Teenage Dream amazing.
When my footsteps have hung in your hallways enough/ For you to be truly haunted.
Be still my heart, I age by years at the mention of your name

| "I never thought we'd have to learn to doubt our friends"
"Did you say you were afraid to die? I ain't lived a single day without you."
Those are two of my favorites, but I also love the "no, no, no, no" part in Sugar. Maybe even my favorite part of the whole album. Brian kills it. |

| "And while you held my hand, I think I witnessed a crime."
"Her and I we never talked too much or licked our wounds Just lived between the hours of sleep." (maybe my favorite on the album)
"There's always just these three siren spirits always following me They just appeared one night in the passenger seat."
"I carry each and every ghost of my lovers at once."
"While I get my last rites read by a thief."
Also, the two verses of Black Betty and the Moon kill me every time.

| Black Betty and Cherry Blossoms in general are like, holy crap for me lyrically. The rapid fire verses in Black Betty are probably the most descriptive Brian's ever done, and that bridge is just inane, where he whispers and it really builds. Then there's Cherry Blossoms, where he's just super down in the dumps moping around. I love when he talks about driving his car off the bridge and thinks about his lover. Then the building part on that song is so straightforward it's beautiful. The "See all I can do" part is probably my favorite moment on the album. | |

I love the part about driving off the bridge too. I think it's one of the most powerful lines in the whole album. When he says that his baby would just be laughing with the new guy, it rips my heart out every time. First I want to cry (okay, I have actually cried a little), then I just want to punch this girl in the face, haha.
