Anybody seen thes guys live? Man their music is great and so original....I got "Afraid of Everyone" on steady repeat. I think they are way better than Arcade Fire. Plus, the national reps Booklyn ;o)

We already have a thread for them:

https://thegaslightanthem.forumotion.com/other-bands-f9/the-national-and-a-load-of-other-bands-t1083-40.htm

Regardless they don't strike me as a "must see live" kind of band. Their songs are too calm for liveness. I still think they are a great band and want to see them live at some point, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make it happen.

But yeah, Arcade Fire and all the other "indie rock" bands got nothing on the National. Easily my favorite band from that genre.

They actually put on a very powerful, intense live show. A few of my friends saw them in August and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. If you haven't seen their Spinner Interface Session, it gives you a good idea what their shows are like: http://www.spinner.com/interface/the-national-2010

The version of "Afraid of Everyone" from that session is awesome.

i've never really loved any of their albums, always thought they were an ok band but with way too calm records. but my friend is really into this band so we went to see them live a couple weeks ago, and it was great! their live show is amazing, you should really take the time to go see them if you have the opportunity even if you're not a big fan, you won't regret it!

I LOVE this band...and I agree their live shows are really powerful. I still think that Boxer is one of the greatest record ever made.

I'm in total agreement. The change in Slow Show gives me the shivers every time I hear it.

Saw them on the tour following the release of Boxer. The experience was great..."emotional," to say the least. Very powerful live performance.

I wouldn't necessarily call the space I saw them in intimate--maybe a capacity of 2-or-3,000. But I can understand the difference. The Leeds thing is a big deal, right? I know next to nothing about those big UK shows.

I just bought Boxer on Vinyl in the states, although I already had it on my iPod. I think it's the kind of music that deserves a sit-down and full listen of the whole album. I've never actually gotten round to listening to alligator though, I might just download it now.

"country tinged" wow thats like the worst description ever for Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers

its kinda more upbeat, lots of tempo changes and Matt kinda screams also...something that I believe High Violet lacks big time.
