| Like I said it was close and the keeper doing the wrong thing was what made it off side as it left the attacker behind all but one player so off side im afraid it just happened to be the last man was not the keeper as per usual.
What a goal from the hosts though.

| Goal was offside. There was only 1 player between him and the goal...offside, was close though. Wanted Mexico to win that, had a mexico to win from behind and mexico/uraguay double on today, both those gone now. | |

| Not sure what I want from this, got a bet on England to win, would like the US to win though (although then the media would just complain till high heaven anyway). | |

| Felt bad for Green, only because he seems to be one of the few nice people in that squad. Personally I think Hart is the best keeper on the panel but James' experience probably means he's next in line for a shot.
USA tired really badly in the second half but England didn't do much to threaten them at all. Did anyone else think Gerrard was a bit anonymous after the goal?
Reckon Brazil, Spain and probably Italy would demolish that England team.

| Why do the ITV commentators sit in a studio in Jo'burg, rather than being the game itself? They might as well have stayed in England. That aside, it's weird supporting England angainst the US when one is fully engrossed in American Slang. | |

| Since it's only the first game I really wouldn't write England off just yet. The first game can always be a bit unpredictable and a lot of the time, the team that wins struggles in the early stages.
Also feeling rather sorry for Green as you won't hear the end of it from the media. At least he made up for it with a solid save later in the game though, would have been worse for him had they gone on to lose.
I thought Gerrard was pretty solid and would probably have given him man of the match tbh. Scored England's only goal and put in a steady flow of good crosses which should have been put a away. He also tracked back a fair bit and made some important tackles.

| i dont really watch football or soccer or however you wanna say it. but i just cant get on board with any game that can end in a tie. in every game there should be a winner and a loser. ties are weak. how incredibly anticlimactic. | |

Knockout stages means extra-time and penalties. I'd rather 2 evenly matched teams drew then one team snatch a winner/win just due to the fact there has to be a winner.
