2012...end of the world?

Been reading a lot about that year and what people think might happen and such lately, not sure why, just started and and couldn't stop. So what do you all think about it?

People thought the world was gonna end in 2000 as well. I used to kind of obsess and be a little terrified about it, but this world will end for me when I die and that could be next year, or tomorrow, or in ten minutes for all I know.

In other words, it's really no use thinking about it, as far as I can tell.

I agree when it doesn't end then, people will come up with another date.

Well the end of the world seems to change dates all the time.
It was apparently meant to be the end of the world when that machine that re-created the big bang was turned on but we are still here.

As long as there is no cannibalism involved with the end of the world I'd say...

It was supposed to be the end of the world but it ended up not working.
It almost blew itself up but they turned it off. (pretty simple solution considering its extremely advanced science!)
However they are trying again so get ready.

Why would they want to do that?

To prove all the bible bashers wrong of course!
It's a machine that is meant to re-create the formation of the Universe and it was that bloody expensive that they weren't allowed to scrap it!

Anything that has the slightest chance of ending the world should be illegal.

And I doubt the world will end in 2012 either. Gordon Brown better hope it doesn't too, or else he's pissing millions down the drain at the moment.

If it's gonna end it's gonna end.
Most likely it will be nuclear related.

And in the topic of money... where did this whatever trillion dollars come from that America are using to bail their banks out?

except that it couldn't have ended the world, maximum damage, blowing up and destroying part of Switzerland
it may have made a black hole, but so tiny and minute, that it would have destroyed itself too fast for it to destroy anything
or it just wont work and be a massive failure (but that would be more interesting as the theory failed and they would have to make a new one)

and it wasn't about to blow up
one of the magnets got damaged (thats what is sending the particles around the 16 mile tube), and fell over making a domino effect for quarter of a kilometre, and they are fixing that, so should be started up again this year, and reach full power this year or next, then they send particles around both ways at the same time and we (hopefully) see conditions just after the big bang, which should gretly increase ou understanding
or it cus just fail and be a waste of money

I just like to keep up to date on things going on in the world around me, which a lot of my friends find weird.
They seem to live in a bubble consisting of crappy soap operas and Subway.
The majority of my year group at school (250 people) didn't even know about the Prop 8 campiagn in America.

and as for the A Level Physics.... rather you than me!

My view: If it's gonna end there's nothing I or anyone else can do about so, so why worry?

I wish I had that outlook when it comes to other things though...

The world is going to end in 2012? Yeah, right. That's what people said about 2000 and before that, 1984. Well, I made it past age two and age 18, so I'm pretty sure that the world will still be spinning past next year as well. These theories are just used to scare people. Don't fall for it, guys.

haha, right? The world has "ended" like 5 times already this year. There were even billboards up along the highway where I live.

Hmm. 2000 was never supposed to be the worlds end, there was the whole 'Millenium Bug' thing where they thought all the electric in the world would crash but that was it as far as I can recall. The world ending this year ('The Rapture') was invented by a 90 year old cultist crackpot, and was rightly ignored by anyone with common sense.

2012 is quite different, as someone else pointed out it's the end of the Mayan calender, it's biblical (supposedly), the world is in meltdown, there is 'nibiru' (google it)...it's kind of a bigger deal, I think.

Will it end? Probably not, but I think it's a bit more concerning then what has come before. Nothing anybody can do about it anyway, so why worry?

p.s. if it doesn't end in 2012 I don't think anybody should ever believe a date given ever again! As long as I can remember it's been 2012.
