Some songs are great, but I think simple is greatest. So many artists drown themselves out in over-production, bells and whistles. Raw = perfection IMO - I call it the Phil Ochs Syndrome, he was the worst at over-producing. To no exception [except 'outside a small circle of friends'] every song of his acoustic is 1, 000, 000 times better than the studio version.

yeah those two really are awful. Harsh Realms however is amazing. Cowards is pretty good as well, and 100 Years would be w/out the backing vocals/percussion during the chorus. that crescendo thing is annoying

agreed, i love harsh realm but Conceptual Paths and Random Hearts bring so much disapointment

yeah, live drums woulda been nice

I have only heard 100 years so far (I saw the video) but that song was pretty good.

Sorry all but I really like the electric version of Random Hearts, but I agree that the electronica stuff is disapointing. My favs are:

* Harsh Realm (fucking brilliant!)
* AnnA Is A Fucking Stool Pigeon (harmonica needs to be worked on tho)
* Random Hearts

All the other ones are a bit cheesy and overproduced IMO. Drum effects are kind of lame, as well as the background vocals on 100 Years and Conceptual Paths.

I just got my Tom Gabel vinyl in today, the vinyl looks really sharp... but I am not a fan of this record.

I really like the version of Amputations that he did at the Bonnaroo festival much more than the recorded version
