| You'd think with so many new computer programws catering to sound and music editing and so many college programs teaching it it'd be easy to find fans that would do it. And now with the new portable recording technology out there the sources of the recordings would also get much better. Olympus has a new recorder that's supposed to be amazing. Haven't heard any boots from it yet. I'll ask around. The other problem is that Gaslight is very guitar heavy and it's a noisy sound. This sound great to human ears live but harder to capture with a recording device in the crowd. The solution would be to mix an audience recording with a soundboard recording. Does Gaslight record all their own shows for archive purposes? | |

I don't know... but when I was hanging out with the guys after the Area 4 festival, one of the guys from the group that was running the festival came up and handed Hollie the recording of the event.

| I'd bet that a lot of the bigger gigs are recorded just because they can be. Most soundboards I'm sure are fitted with CD recording drives. | |

Tip 50 bucks to the soundboard guy and you're in. If this is a serious post I'd gladly try that at a show

| good luck on that... most places are quite serious about not letting people record from the soundboard. ...but it never hurts to try | |

Whoever here sees the guys first should just ask them. They'll be in new York tomorrow. If anyone from here is going they should ask him what he thinks about bootlegging and what he thinks about soundboard recordings and selling them the way Pearl Jam does.

| You couldn't tip any sound guy enough to give up those recordings. Their reputation is on the line when it comes to those tapes, word gets around they're handing those out and they can kiss their careers bye bye. | |

He'd certainly get caught if he let someone plug in a laptop, but if a soundboard were to leak weeks after the show there really would be no way to finding out who leaked. The bigger the label the harder it gets. It's like when CDs leak online. It's probably usually leaked by someone who works in the factory where they get pressed or for the delivery company that ships them. All you need is one guy to take one disc, rip it and put it online weeks before the release date.

| A friend of mine actually helped record this. The day I found out it was being released, I contacted our closest diy record store (an hour away) and they're gonna hold a copy for me. Can't wait for Record Store Day! =D | |

In the Bruce world we have Crystal Cat, Prodigal Son, EV2, and Flynn, as the main guys. Who they actually are I don't know, and their end results often vary but they're best boots can be really good. I've heard that Crystal Cat are a team that have mastered ceratin venues the record at to get the best possible sound. They take from various parts of the venue ad then mix it together. Can't confirm it but it sure sounds cool. Crystal Cat mainly record shows in Europe, a lot of their US releases are "remasters" of fan produced recordings that they download and then sell once they've done the packaging and tweaking of recordings. Flynn's compilations of Bruce's tours are legendary, usually end up keeping only them from each tour along with one or two great shows or ones I was at. There's a few good Gaslight bootlegs out there, here's hoping for more! And as always, thanks to the tapers for their hard work. Live At Park Avenue should be great!

| I think it would be awesome to get a bootleg community going. I've love recordings of Gaslight shows I've been to. |

| The UK release was '77 and the US was '79. I think. I know Brian's told that story a bunch of different times in different places, just thought I'd share it anyway.......love sharing.... | |

| yeah, i was just saying that i consider the '77 UK version to be the actual version of the album. the US version from '79 was filled with singles released after '77, like White Man (In Hammersmith Palais) and Complete Control, so it's not really legit | |
