Listening now. This record is stellar.

Dark Places takes the cake. Easily the best song on the album, IMO. Possible Backseats replacement as the set-closer at some point.

Boring, cheesy and most importantly forgettable. But I've been falling off the bandwagon for awhile now, liking each record that came out less and less. I doubt I'll ever listen to it again. Very bummed.

Some of the songs are definitely on the forgettable side but you don't think it has its moments?

Not sure if I think it's the best but it's a very Backseats type closer. Good thing.

Haha yeah I'm just messing around. I've been getting out of Gaslight recently too, hoping this one brings me back. We'll see when I get a chance to listen to it.

Would have been great if Have Mercy was on the album instead of Underneath the Ground. Not really feeling that one, so far and Have Mercy is a jam.

Seriously? Underneath the Ground hit me hard. But I think Have Mercy should've closed out the album. Although considering I have no recollection of the actual final track of the album, maybe I'll change my mind.

This one is gonna take a few listens. My first impression is that it starts out very strong, that there are a number of REALLY good tracks, a number of, so far, forgettable tracks, it's LONG and that my views on all this will likely change when I have the lyrics in front of me because unlike Handwritten where I got every word on the first go, I missed maybe 85% of the words with this first listen.

Also, I'm kind of "meh" to the new recording of Halloween, but considering I'm pretty okay with the original recording, that doesn't really bother me.

That's all I'm gonna say for now because I tend to eat my words later on.

After my first full listen the standouts are Get Hurt, 1000 Years, Dark Places, Break Your Heart and Stay Vicious. I honestly don't hear anything I don't like and I have a feeling this will be a big grower for people. So far I'm beyond thrilled and kudos to Brian and the band on another amazing record.

Also my first impression. There isn't much in the middle. It's either "This might be one of their best songs ever" or "This is filler."

A lot of songs sort of like 45 and Desire, especially the up-tempo stuff in the middle. Good songs but nothing groundbreaking.

"Helter Skeleton" feels very American Slang to me on second listen.

Overall though this is a good album. I'm not disappointed. Though one of the (negative) reviews from the media said something about this album not being weird, and I have to agree with that. I was expecting the worst so to speak (might've been awesome but massively weird or different) but it pretty much felt like a TGA album to me. Weirdest song is probably Stay Vicious which is only weird by comparison to their previous body of work. (EDIT: Underneath the Ground is weird-esque with the talking stuff that almost sounds like it was sampled from a movie? Very different stylistically from any of their past stuff)

Disclaimer, I'm halfway through a second listen and lately it takes me 15-20 spins to really start parsing out which songs lead the pack.

I thought that the song had potential if it were arranged differently, but it just sorta felt like a demo to me. Honestly, I really liked the rest of the album a lot (and I think I liked every song more on the second listen than the first, if that counts for anything). I didn't get the feeling that there were really any unmemorable songs, although there were a few that don't start out as strong as they end up as the track progresses, almost sort of like some of Brian's live acoustic performances where things are a little shaky until he gets in his groove.
