| Yeah, like even some of my favorite songs. I'm like- how do I not not know every single lyric? To be fair though Frank's lyrics are pretty involved. I mean he references Dostoyevsky FFS. But yeah even some Gaslight songs I stumble over the words. I'm like "yada blah blah la la ladida and it feels like all you have to do is step outside!" I think somewhere I ran out of patience in terms of sitting down and listening to the music and reading the words to the songs. I keep telling myself I will spend some quality time with the lyrics, but it hasn't happened yet. Do you have a confession? | |

Do you have a confession? hahahaha. i know what you mean! but seriously, music is SOUND. so it's about what moves you first of all, because of the sound, and great lyrics just make it better!! shit, i dunno, i feel like i've spilled quite a bit about myself here, what's left to tell?!

| Hmmm. How about a photography confession- I need to be a bigger jerk at shows or something. Long story short, I'm missing out on shots cus I'm too much of a rule follower. Sometimes I think there are rules where there are none. Like, tonight I could have stood in this one area against the stage but I assumed I couldn't because I would have been blocking the steps to the stage. Then these two fangirls came out of nowhere and stood there. I asked security if I could stand in this area right behind those two girls but security said no cus I'd be blocking the entrance to the bar. So my shots suffered cus of this if that makes sense. Any talk in your classes about getting nerve-y? | |

| that sucks. i know what you mean though.
i can't say there was much talk of that, but i doubted myself a million times that, which is what really hurt me! i guess the lesson is you just gotta go for it! i mean, if people think you are a professional photographer, they will probably assume you are meant to be there and not get in your way, and if they do, fuck 'em, right?

| Another photographer said something to the effect of "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to get permission". Meaning, go do what you want and if you get yelled at just say "sorry" but then at least you got the shot you wanted.
I know it's a dumb problem! I don't know if it's a confidence issue or just incorrectly assuming things.
There was another show where they told us we had to wait to be escorted to the pit. I went to go meet the escort and found out the other photographers got there earlier and she let them go down without her, so I got there last and had to stand behind people. WTF! Maybe I just can't win LOL!
I'm sad my Frankfest is over. Post-concert depression in full effect.
I think | |

| Oh and also, my FLASH WENT OFF AGAIN LOL I finally just disabled it. At least it wasn't right in Frank's face like it was the Dropkicks singer (Al). | |

haha. do they mind if the flash goes off? i thought generally photographers were allowed to shoot for the first 3 songs or so and then go away!

| Well that was the rule at Dropkick. The singer or security didn't do anything. I think the look on my face immediately after definitely showed it was not on purpose. I was like "WTF JUST HAPPENED AND WHY!!" lol
For this show, there wasn't even a policy. They didn't even check bags. I guess because it's literally a bar.
The bigger the venue, the more rules. At least that's what I've found out. Like Kelly Clarkson was ridiculous. I literally had to shoot from the hallway and only got the 2nd and 3rd songs, and of course no flash. There've been times I kept shooting in the crowd, but a lot of times those shots don't even come out cus I don't have those big $$$$ lenses (yet).
I don't mind the no flash rule only because the photos come out so much better anyway!

| haha. it must be nice to find a venue that small anymore. i'm assuming it's the same everywhere, but when i was 17, we'd go to punk shows for like $5-10 at some crappy dive bar, only a couple years later, they basically closed down all those venues, and the main venues here now are bigger, corporate, check-your-bag-type places.

| I never thought of that. I assumed every city had a stadium, arena, large theater and then a small club where people you've heard of will play. I guess I'm lucky in that this area has a ton of venues. Of course there's negatives that come with that (like any city).
Just when I think I have a grip on the rules, some show happens that doesn't go by them. Like that Gaslight show at Convention Hall- I think I actually teared up with happiness when security said we were getting 5 songs from the photo pit. The other thing is, depending on how long a band's song is or whether they talk between songs will affect things. If I had shot the Ramones back in the day, 3 songs would mean I'd get like 6 minutes to get pictures LOL

| Finally remembered to take a photo of the Lanes! Not awesome, but I felt weird as I was the only person for a few blocks and just wanted to get in my car. Here it is sometime ago sans weird stripey spaceship thingy in front: http://cevincat.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/amy_asbury_lanes_sm.jpg?w=500 | |

| Yeah, it didn't snow that much though (around 2-3 cm/1 inch maybe) since there was still some snow left on the ground but still, the weather looks so dull that I just want to sleep all day. | |
