| He probably had pressure from the record company to leave ASAP. Brian has always been friendly before and it's probably not his fault | |

| Not a thing, but bootlegs can either show up hours after a gig, or months down the line. All depends on the taper, and what they want to do with the recording.
If there is even a recording.
I might have to tape the UK tour, as there really doesn't seem to be that many tapers over here interested in the guys.

Is there still a healthy taping scene nowadays...I videoed shows in the 90's (mainly smaller bands) and had quite a lot of worldwide contacts but have lost complete track of the scene

| Yes and no, I think is the best way to answer that. Obviously with the growth of the internet and file sharing sites, it makes it easier to find a show, but has taken away a lot of the fun of trading, as well as the community. There's still sites for mail trades, but they are fewer and much further apart now. The bigger bands still seem to have their core tapers, but I feel that a band like Gaslight with such a young fanbase, won't really embrace the scene that much. Which will be a shame in years to come | |

Which will be a shame in years to come I think the file sharing sites took away the ' community feeling'. When I first got on the net in '97 I set up my trading website and quickly built up a network of good traders. However as the technology progressed people began to put their wares on file sharing sites and it simply became a matter of clicking a button to get a show...a lot quicker... but a lot less fun...I haven't traded now since 2003 but every now and then I get an email asking for a trade

| I think part of the decline in trading shows is due to the changing way people consume music. Generally people have a much shorter attention span now. There's less incentive to spend ages downloading a show or working out a trade when you can view pretty decent videos on youtube. People want instant gratification on their iphones!
For the more dedicated fans willing to spend a bit of time downloading, we've gotten a hell of a lot of high quality stuff from the last few tours. I'm thinking festival broadcasts, shows live on the radio, Cologne Revival Tour show and recently the web-broadcast. For me, there's not much incentive to listen to audience-recorded shows anymore (which lets be honest, don't sound great in comparison), unless its a particularly special show (like Koko).
10-20 years ago, there's no way you'd have gotten this amount of decent material from a band as "small" as Gaslight so there was a much greater reliance on tapers. |

| 10-20 years ago, you did have the same proportion of pro-shot shows to be honest. Granted, not as many festivals, but I do have tons and tons of pro-shot shows from smaller bands, from all over the world.
As for audience recordings, I would argue the point about quality, I've got some recently that blow away what some bands put out as 'soundboard'. Prime example been the '10 Pearl Jam tour, the soundboards were awful (and this wasn't the first time that had happened. Also the Metallica show with the orchestra, I have the bootleg of it, and the audience recording gives a far better representation of the night.

Perhaps I should have said... all that pro-shot material is so much more accessible now without having to trade tapes. As for audience vs soundboard, I agree "soundboards" are often not up to much (and I've also heard bad things about the PJ "official bootlegs") but I've yet to hear a Gaslight audience recording which sounds better than the Sydney, Southside Festival and Revival Tour recordings (all broadcast) I listen to. |
