| What are everyone's predictions on American Slang's chart success? This is the Billboard 200.
One of my other favourite bands The Black Keys debuted at #3 and so did The National's new one.
Anyone know the other albums coming out the same week AS that will compete with it?
I know the same week the Black Keys got #3 the Stones' re-issue of Exile on Main St came out and so did The Glee sound track with Glee taking number 1 and the Stones taking number 2.
My predicition is top 15-20 with hopefully top 10.
What does everyone think?

Thought that seems a little off. Wiki says Ozzy's new album actually comes out the next week. Which I guess is good.
I think being the same week as Petty might actually help them (Petty fans might buy the album while they are buying the Petty album)
Who knows. Its always tough to call. Yes the charts have been weak as of late, but they have also had a weak offering. That is changing with stuff like Aguielra the 8th and Drake the 15th. I still think they have an outside shot at top 10, but it'll probably be more likely in the mid twenties to low teens.

| Next week there are new albums from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Drake, Sarah McLachlan and probably a couple other I'm missing.
I really have no clue how well they will do next week. The '59 Sound sold 7.5k in its first week and I'm sure expectations are much higher for American Slang. They're obviously more popular now but it's really hard to say how that will translate into sales. Looking at the recent charts, the top 15-20 are selling ~20k per week. Something in that ballpark seems pretty reasonable. Selling 30k+ albums in a week and cracking the top 10 seems crazy to me. It'd be awesome for them but still crazy.
For some comparison, The Hold Steady's new one Heaven Is Whenever sold 23k and debuted at #26. It'll be interesting to see how the new Against Me! does this week too.

| Yeah I'd just like to add The Black Keys sold 78,000 and that got them to #3. | |

| I think GA will for sure crack the top 10. I know that I bought two copies and I'm sure there are lots of people like us.
The people who love them, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM, so I think they'll have a great debut.
And if not, the more people that hear this record will go out and buy it. Absolutely fantastic record from top to bottom.
It takes a few listens to understand/really feel it, but once it clicks, my god does it click.
Whenever anyone says "London" referencing the city, in my head I think "and we hustle in London..."
Brilliant album, top 10 for sure.

| Interestingly, having googled this, I find that 'American Slang', presumably the single (as it is available for download), appears in a few charts. This is what I have found so far (8 June 2010):
German Youth Chart: 17 (unchanged; 4 wks) http://www.radiocharts.com/html/charts_de_jugend.htm
NME singles chart: 27 (up from 35; 4 wks) http://www.theofficialcharts.com/nme-singles-chart/
Can anyone can find any other charts appearances?

| I don't know how much of an indication this will be:
http://www.interpunk.com/topitems.cfm?cat=1
2nd CD Sales rank behind Against Me!
3rd 12" Behind Against Me! and a re-issue from Blink 182.

| I just found this is an another thread:
"For those of you who were around for our pre-order of The 59 Sound will know that this was one of the craziest pre-orders, we have ever had. We posted 500 copies on white and they sold out in 42 minutes. The traffic to the Side One Dummy store for their exclusive color on blue killed their online store so they had us post the pre-order on Blue vinyl the next day and we sold the 1,000 copies in a little under 2 weeks. We sold nearly 2,000 copies before the album’s street date and helped contribute to their first week soundscan of 10,000 copies."

| The pre-order and sales rank figures are quite interesting:
Play.com [UK] pre-order chart
1. Recovery - Eminem 2. The Boxer (Limited Edition Play.com Exclusive Signed Copies) - Kele (Bloc Party) 3. American Slang - The Gaslight Anthem 4. Aphrodite (CD & DVD Special Edition) - Kylie Minogue
Amazon [UK] sales rank:
# 34 in Music (See Bestsellers in Music) # 11 in Music > Rock # 1 in Music > Alternative & Indie > Punk
Amazon [US] bestsellers rank:
# 61 in Music (See Top 100 in Music) # 29 in Music > Rock # 56 in Music > Pop # 4 in Music > Alternative Rock

| Good Old War hit #133 last week. Gaslight is obviously quite a bit more popular than GOW (since they took GOW on tour), and according to last.fm, Gaslight has more than 3x more listeners than GOW. I'm going to say Top 50 is locked down, Top 10 is definitely possible. | |

Its now #67 in music off Amazon US, but is still pretty nice. Petty, Sarah McLachlan, and Drake are ahead there (for releases on the 15th). It'll go up when release day comes around. Maybe not top 10 for the US but hopefully top 20. Playing in festivals around the release date in the UK will hopefully help it crack top 10 there.

| iTunes usually doesn't mean too much in the UK though. It's much more physical sales. | |

| American Slang is at 7 currently on itunes. It is a good release day for them based on the fact they are topping several albums that came out last week. | |

| Also 5 on Amazon downloads and 12 on Amazon CDs.
Interestingly enough, She Loves You is blowing all the other songs out of the water in terms of itunes downloads, so it looks like a lot of people are buying it elsewhere then giving itunes their dollar for the song =)

| [s]Holy crap. She Loves You is #19 on the iTunes [i]singles[i] chart. I'm not sure over what period of time that is, but its still pretty impressive. Its a b-side few people had heard before two days ago contending with radio hits.
American Slang is also top 30, but that is because they were/are giving it away for free
Also Bring it On is like, 150 right now. It doesn't look like normal album sales go to single chart preformance -- so I'd figure that is from people realizing it is cheaper to get American Slang for free and then the songs piece by piece. I donno.[/s]
I think I was somehow looking at the wrong charts. I'm not sure how I got to the ones i was looking at though. But they are not anywhere in the top 200 now. odd.
edit: yeah. itunes somehow sent me to the alternative charts earlier. Which I guess means its still pretty cool, though not as ubercool as I thought
But still very cool.
