| here is a trick to getting even more enjoyment out of The Gaslight Anthem... if there is ever an odd lyric, then you know it is a refernce to something... in this case Brian is talking about a song called Jacob Marley's Chain sung by Aimee Man. | |

| I would tell you more about the song, but really you should listen to Aimee Mann, so get on iTunes and get her CD called Whatever | |

| So just in case people didn't realize it, this song is all about a friend's funeral. When I first heard this song live, I was all pumped up, I did not realize what they were singing about, and then when I heard the recorded version I realized it was about a funeral. It is very similar to Against Me!'s "Pints of Guinness" in that it sounds like a good mood song, but is actually very depressing | |

| ok, I was wrong. Marley's Chains are not a reference to Aimee Man... after I typed that email my wife saw the computer and said that Jacob Marley is the first ghost that comes to see Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and warns him that he is on the same path as him and will be condemened to walk around earth and/or hell watching others but unable to interact all the while having to drag a chain made up of money boxes of the people they screwed over... | |
