For my money it's the best medium-sized venue in NYC. Great acoustics, nice staff, intimate without being too intimate. Love it.

| Has everyone seen the video to Recovery yet? I think the song and vid are both great. The production is a point of interest to me. It's super clear and fairly bare bones. I loved the way they did England Keep My Bones with those huge guitars, this recording seems a little less thick than that album but also more subtle and clean. interesting. I feel like this will be his most lyrically strong album, or at least the most painfully honest, in the vein of Redemption or Nights Become Days from EKMB

| Losing Days is also a great song. You can tell this a post-age-30 album and he's dealing with a lot of stuff...

| Frank's doing a contest where you post artwork you've drawn for songs from Tape Deck Heart. Luckily I was slacking in Political Science class two weeks ago... - Spoiler:

| Frank Turner is playing the Stone Pony on Saturday June 8. Tickets on sale this Friday at 10am. Looks like there is also a pre-sale starting today at 10am. From what I've gathered password for pre-sale is 'swoon'. | |

| If I had heard the album, I would say that it is quite good. However, I would say I'm reserving judgement until I get my higher quality CD version. I'm assuming that Broken Piano is super different for Frank, and it's a rather cool song, and there's probably a lot of cool dynamic instrumental stuff going on in the album. | |

| hmmm so after FIRST LISTEN compared to the last album 'england keep my bones' this is kind of a let down. I'm not saying it's a bad album but it's not as good as the previous album.
Musically lots of songs are full band songs which I kinda expected specially after hearing him on US alt/rock radios. The folkie type music that appeared on Love Ire Songs are mostly gone. England Keep My Bones felt like the perfect mix between solo folkie music and full band songs (which I love/prefer).
Lyrically, not too many musicians deliver as Frank does. Solid song writing.
Polaroid Picture is still amazing, I was in love when I heard it live for the first time in 2011 and I still love it. Broken Piano is also a cool song. |

| i agree that it isn't as good as England Keep My Bones. still very good though.
i'm at least fond of all the songs. there's no song like One Foot Before The Other that i just don't like.
favorites so far include The Way I Tend To Be and Polaroid Picture. i find i like him best in that mid-tempo wheelhouse.
least favorites right now are Good & Gone and Anymore.

I agree with everything you just said. Polaroid Picture and Way I Tend to Be kill it. I kinda have a problem with the arrangements / performances on the album. Like on Anymore, Frank seems to be kinda mumbling. And when the band drops out and it's just acoustic guitar and vocals it sounds weird for some reason. Do any of you guys feel what i mean?

| A little bummed out by this one. Only Losing Days, Way I Tend to be and Plain Sailing Weather are doing anything for me. A lot of songs seem to blend into one big messy breakup song with no strong choruses or memorable melodies or anything.

| some more thoughts-
another thing that's a drop off from EKMB for me is the quality of the bonus tracks. they're fine songs, but they are very bonus song quality, if you know what i mean. i think Eva Mae, Wanderlust, and Balthazar could go toe-to-toe with anything off EKMB (and Tape Deck Heart for that matter) except for Redemption, which is just better than anything else he's ever done in my opinion.
i also find the new album has less of those awesome FTHC moments. like when he sings "love is real and i can't escape" and "these failures shift and shape me in the night" in Redemption. or the chorus in Jet Lag. or the last verse of Prufrock. or great, slightly humorous lines like "if music was the food of love then i'd be a fat romantic slob." those moments that either punch you hard in the gut, make you fist pump in the dark, or make you sing along at the top of your lungs.
for me, Frank Turner albums alternate chronologically between "good" and "great" albums. Sleep Is For The Week is good, Love Ire and Song is great, Poetry of the Deed is good, England Keep My Bones is great, and now Tape Deck Heart is good again. hopefully we get another great one next.
