Maria In The Songs

So Ec6 from the Against Me! board says that Maria, mentioned in so many Gaslight songs, is all women and no women at the same time.

Yeah, I asked Brian about that when he was playing in Munchen (or Munich for you non-germans out there). I felt really awkward asking him that because I asked who Maria was right in front of his wife... Hollie.

So, long story short, Maria is every woman and she is no woman.

I've often wondered about her, thanks for clearing it up. How long has he been married to Hollie if you know?

And is Hollie Alex's sister

By Alex I mean Alex Guitar and not Alex Bass

Brian thanks Hollie in the liner notes for This Charming Man's cd, so they must have been together for a while

Brian's wife is Alex L's (bass Alex's) sister.

This Charming Man is a band that Brian (and Alex?) were in prior to TGA... I believe this is the band that first recorded 1930, although they called it something else

i want to hear there former band anyone have any music from them?

That's what I have it as, I like that version, although Brian's voice is really weird and high pitched

I think almost every song has something about driving/dancing and girls called Maria!

I've done some more research* and found a few interesting Bruce Springsteen references to Maria. The first is called Maria's Bed, but the second reference I found is from a song called Highway Patrolman from the Nebraska album... I think this might be the song where Maria comes from:

demo of 1930, recorded back when they were still TCM. there supposedly is a demo from 2006 of more than just this song, but i don't think it was ever released

I really like this version of 1930, I think it's in a different key than the recorded one....

His voice sounds so much more raw...

I gotta say though, I like the one on the GA record much better though. It sounds finished...

That being said this one says its a demo, so makes sense it'd be rough haha

well seeing as it was the only song that was discussed here and suddenly everyone had heard the other version of 1930, I guess I should have guessed it LOL haha
