1930 wasn't in the encore though was it? Thought it was earlier than that! Wasn't Chuck on in the first few songs as well? Well, which do you trust, the set list off the stage or off setlist.fm?

Yes...definitely played it but they didn't play Senor which was down on the setlist. Last night was a good show and a decent crowd Only gripe was the 'In the Midnight Hour' cover...awful...sounded like something you hear from the 'in house' band at a working mens club...no doubt Wilson Pickett was turning in his grave

I'll post pics later. GREAT gig.

not just that; as Brian put it last night, when he was young, they were told "rock 'n' roll is from the devil and gives you STDs" that was preceded or followed by a brief lecture on contraception, using a prop he picked from the crowd and which he 'mistook' for a condom (see pic below) as you can see, he was in top stand up comedy form (great story about Chuck Ragan too)

| I had a really great day in Nottingham thanks to the band, Chuck and Sharks, and not least thanks to the friends I have made through this great forum. Chuck even brought me a cup of tea, because it was so cold outside. Great guy. Finally got to hear '1930' live. And Brian was great fun; he probably could have told stories all night. (I know I've used 'great' three times now, but that's just how it is.) Here is one more pic in addition to the one I've already posted. Two more are at http://www.gaslightanthem.org/nottingham2010.htm | |

(I know I've used 'great' three times now, but that's just how it is.) I totally understand ... it's quite difficult to write about TGA without running out of superlatives, isn't it ;o)) Great that you had such an amazing time! - Quote :

| set list as now shown on setlist.fm
The Spirit of Jazz Boxer Casanova, Baby! The Diamond Church Street Choir Old White Lincoln Old Haunts Even Cowgirls Get the Blues We Came to Dance Orphans Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis? Wooderson Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts The Queen of Lower Chelsea Bring It On In the Midnight Hour (Wilson Pickett cover) Stay Lucky Last Kiss (Wayne Cochran cover) Great Expectations The '59 Sound
Encore: American Slang 1930 Miles Davis and the Cool The Backseat
what isn't shown is the looooong and cracking good instrumental they played; anyone know where that fit in?
curfew was 11pm, but the venue only opened at 7.30pm, so TGA were only due at 9.30pm, though I think they came on a bit earlier
hence, a shorter set than of late, but I loved the long stories that Brian told, so that's fine with me (I can always hear another song or two at another time)

It was great though. I also loved Brian's stories, loving the Chuck Ragan jokes too. It was just a great mix of everything and a top, top night.

from what I recall, people said Brian was giving brief lecture on contraception, and used that as a prop which he mistook for a condom. |

from what I recall, people said Brian was giving brief lecture on contraception, and used that as a prop which he mistook for a condom. It was a green balloon with alien eyes on, a number of which were being thrown through the crowd, of which one ended up on stage. When they first went on stage, Brian put the hat on said balloon and put it in front of the microphone, and then after 3 songs got it back and said that he was told in the past that Rock n' Roll gives you AIDs, so use condoms... until he found it wasn't a condom but a balloon. That was it in essence i think!
