Thinking of taking a short trip to Amsterdam

Due to circumstances will probably be on my own

Anyone have any recommendations of places to stay and cool places to visit?

(NB will not involve 'window shopping ')

been there 2 times. last trip was in june/july when gaslight anthem and nofx played there. it was fun. check out a show at the melkweg if there is any interesting band playing

I had a great time at the Flying Pig Hostel... there's two of them, I stayed at the "Uptown". Granted I was with 8 other people, so we didn't have to room with random people- but there weren't TOO many sketchy people walking around LOL (Bring flip flops for the shower, though...)

Definitely recommend Barneys for breakfast! (at pretty much any time of day as I recall) The van Gogh museum was really interesting too. All joking aside there are some good bars in the Red Light District and we were highly entertained watching guys (read: tourists) pace back and forth trying to decide if they wanted a ...date... or not.
