The first one is obvious, but they're all great.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Sixx: A.M. - Courtesy Call
Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone (sort of funny-sad, but definitely sad)

And then, sorry but I have to do it, I just uploaded a song of my own on my myspace and last.fm page called Eulogy that's really sad. Shameless, I know, but I'm really proud of my vocal performance on the song so I really needed to pimp it a bit.

Sorry about your loss, man.

This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Beautiful strings, powerful lyrics delivered with such passion. Hope you enjoy it. It's a masterpiece live so look up some live versions if you like it.

And now, I am swedish but I do not like Abba, as a matter of fact haha. But this version of John F is so wonderful. I listened to this a lot when I was in a similiar situation. It made me weep like never before but I couldn't stop listening to it as I connected so well with the lyrics. To add something to the whole thing, John's girlfriend at the time had broken up with him at the same day as that show.

Songs I listened to after boy drama (my taste is pretty mainstream and whiny in that situation for some reason):
Guaranteed- Eddie Vedder
Everchanging (acoustic)- Rise Against
Elevator- Boxcar Racer (about seeing a suicide, but hey you wanted depressing)
Gone- Madonna
Pieces- Sum 41
Weatherman- +44
Disintegration- Jimmy Eat World
and one of the most whiny-woe-is-me songs I've ever heard- Too Fucked Up To Be In Love by Aimee Allen.

I cried my heart out on "You're Missing" by Bruce Springsteen. Such a recognisable story, everybody is losing somebody someday...

"Walk Away" by Ben Harper . . . very touching and resonant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FSkL9hMhpE

Walk Away

Oh no
Here comes that sun again
That means another day
Without you my friend

And it hurts me
To look into the mirror at myself
And it hurts even more
To have to be with somebody else
And it's so hard to do
And so easy to say
But sometimes
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Walk away

With so many people
To love in my life
Why do I worry
About one

But you put the happy
In my ness
You put the good times
Into my fun
And it's so hard to do
And so easy to say
But sometimes
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Walk away
And head for the door

We've tried the goodbye
So many days
We walk in the same direction
So that we could never stray
They say if you love somebody
Then you have got to set them free
But I would rather be locked to you
Than live in this pain and misery

They say time will
Make all this go away
But it's time that has taken my tomorrows
And turned them into yesterdays
And once again that rising sun
Is droppin' on down
And once again you my friend
Are nowhere to be found
And it's so hard to do
And so easy to say
But sometimes
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Walk away
And head for the door
You just walk away
Walk away

i know this thread is really old, and i'm sure Vibes is good now, but i have to say that Dylan's Blood on the Tracks is the greatest breakup album ever. just saying.

These are "my" heartache-songs:

Damien Rice - 9 Crimes (****)
Jack's Mannequin - Rescued (****)
Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me (***)
José Gonzales - Heartbeats (***)
Joshua Radin - Winter (****)
Kettcar - 48 Stunden (****)
Kill Hannah - Promise Me (****)
Paper Route - Second Chances (*****)
Philipp Poisel - Wie soll ein Mensch das ertragen (*****)
Stars - Personal (****)
Secondhand Serenade - It's not over (*****)
AND of course William Fitzsimmons. - I love every song by him but I think the most saddest are funeral dress, after afterall or passion play.

(I've tried to rate the level of sadness with * from 1 'til 5)
