That's because sung English often has to end up sounding American. Try singing/saying the line 'we came to dance' with an English accent and it sounds just daft. You've got to go all nasal on the 'daaaance' bit.

true...someone else mentioned an english accent sounding "posh," and yet, when sung, it can sound nasal-y.
