Gaslight Anthem
After the release of American Slang, Brian Fallon didn't know if he had anymore songs in him. His band, the Gaslight Anthem, seemed to be at a standstill. It was in this moment of uncertainty that he wrote "45," the first single from their upcoming album Handwritten, which is due out July 24.

"I didn't know what was going to happen. After American Slang, after The '59 Sound, I was like, 'What am I gonna do?'" Fallon says in the exclusive video below. "Is there any more Gaslight songs? It's a scary thing when that feeling hits you. After we wrote the song '45,' I was like 'Thank God.' I just knew it was gonna be all right."

"I think "45" was in there for a long time," he tells Spinner. "I was looking for something guttural that could just be yelled at the top of your lungs. It took me years to figure out what I was trying to say was 'hey, just turn the record over, and I'll see you on the flip side.'"

I wonder if they really recorded the album as a group like that, or if that was staged for the cameras and they recorded the traditional way as individual elements later mixed together...

it kinda looked like a video shoot... wouldn't be surprised if this footage ends up mixed with the asbury footage in the video.

also Brian has some good flow going on.

that's Blackbird Studio in Nashville. when they were recording the video for 45 in Asbury Park, they said they spent the whole day working on it. i assumed they were shooting some other stuff than the live footage, but who knows, maybe they'll mix this footage too

I really liked it when they did the American Slang films so I hope they do that again for this one.

I LOVE the idea that the songs are more personal. From a songwriting perspective.
