| I'm turning 18 later this month, so I'm considering celebrating by getting a tattoo (probably a pretty small one). I'm looking for some suggestions and advice about tattoos. How much do they cost anyway? Right now I'm thinking something related to a band I like, either lyrics or a logo, or both. I'm thinking the Bouncing Souls heart would be pretty sick. So, suggestions? My favorite bands include: Streetlight Manifesto The Gaslight Anthem (surprise!) The Bouncing Souls The Loved Ones The Clash Bruce Springsteen Social Distortion H2O The Draft The Swellers Street Dogs The Arrogant Sons of Bitches Less Than Jake Reel Big Fish Bad Religion Pennywise | |

| I really want a tat, but I have no idea what of. I wanted a Great Gatsby themed one, like the green light or something but I can't think of any good ideas. A few came up but quickly disintegrated when I started thinking about them and other people gave me shit for them.
I'd like a band one too despite how everyone says not to get a band tattoo.

| In my experience, tattoos generally cost about $100 an hour, sometimes a little more. As far as what to get- just make sure it's something that you'll like forever. 20 years from now you don't want to look at your tattoo and say,"eh, that was from some band I liked when I was 18". Good luck, tattoos are fun and very very addicting. | |

| Well my step-mom does tattoos so I can get one for nearly free probably.
I think getting a tattoo of a band I love right now and being able to look back at it later might be awesome even if I don't dig them then. I'd be able to remember a time when I was all about that and maybe some special times that are associated with the band or whatever. Like a photograph or time capsule or some shit.

| I have been obsessed with tattoos for years... fortunately I had a friend that was covered with really bad and dumb tattoos and he gave me great advice: If you have an idea for a tattoo you want, get it drawn out, tape it to your wall and wait atleast 6 months... if you still like it then, go ahead and get it, but you will learn that very few ideas make it pass the 6 month test... and that is why I only have my one tattoo. Oh and for the record, tribal tattoos and japanese/chinese lettering is dumb. And always get you tattoos done by someone from a studio, let someone else be practice for your friend that just bought a tattoo gun... spend the money, it is worth it. | |

| TOTALLY agree with all that e6c said up there. The 6 month test is a great idea. I was post 30 when I got my first one (yeah, I'm old) and am very happy I waited. All the ones I have now, have meaning, good meaning, meaning that wont change. Mostly dealing with life, how I've lived it, symbols honoring family members I've lost etc. I've talked to a lot of people that have said,"be happy you waited, wish I did." Not saying it's bad to get a tattoo at 18, just saying really think about it.

| I've been entertaining the idea of a Dr. Seuss tattoo lately, actually, maybe the Lorax. I figure if I'm going to get something that should matter to me forever, something that I've liked consistently for as long as I can remember and that still has meaning to me aside from nostalgia is a safe bet. | |

Dude, the Lorax was and has always been my favorite Dr. Seuss story. It's still interesting, I love Dr. Seuss books. I feel like he makes a lot of interesting points in his stories that even adults can learn from, if you look at it that way. I don't have any tattoos, I had an appointment to get "untouchable is something to be" tattooed on me, but it ended up not working out. If I do get a tattoo, it'd probably be Against Me! related (big surprise) but no band logos are anything..just lyrics or something that has to do with their music. I know a lot of people are anti-band tats, but they've been the biggest part of my life for the longest time, for a number of reasons.

| I do agree about the waiting part....my first tattoo i got was a band logo...alk3 heart and skull...i got it when i was 18 and i wanted it since i was 15. I still love it now and its been almost 2 years since i got it. I have 6 tats and i can say that the heart and skull is by far my fav.
I have a jawbreaker(the band) tattoo and i want a gaslight anthem, AM! and a Bouncing souls tattoo...what can i say i love music and its apart of me and always will be.
I just say if you want a tattoo wait it out for a while and see how you like it in a couple of months to a year.
oh and show pics of them when you do get them haha.
