Sounds like it's describing Brian's period of writer's block in coming up with this album.

Yeah, definitely about that haha.

| Thought Id go ahead and try out the rest of the lyrics
Stay Lucky
It took so long to get me back on my feet It takes so long to find the words and the beat And Charlie’s waiting on the end of the phone To hear you call him when you try to recapture, But them old records won’t be savin’ your soul And them feelins got for reasons you know, That you forgotten somewhere ridin’ the trains, To a place you bored out ???
And it feels like all you have to do is step outside Stop pacing around and waiting around For some moment that might never arrive But your never gonna find it, But when you were young And everyone used to call you lucky
But nothing feels right in the winter and cold Steam heat, clang, and the dog at your door All the other rooms are a party tonight And you never got an invitation And you feel it in your bones, yeah they achin’ some more, 25 years gone about an hour ago, And momma never told me there would be days like these, Till it was much too late to recover
And it feels like all you have to do is step outside Stop pacing around and waiting around For some moment that might never arrive But your never gonna find it, When your knees, they got so weak, But just lie here, in case you need it, Like when you were young, And everybody used to call you lucky When you were young And everybody used to call you lucky,
But it feels like you just might explode inside You keep pacin’ around and waitin’ For some moment that might never arrive, What you don’t have, you don’t need it anymore, What you don’t have, you don’t need it anymore But your never gonna find it when your knees got so weak, And just lie here, in case you need it, Like when you were young, And everybody used to call you lucky When you were young And everybody used to call you lucky
And if you’re anywhere in Manhattan in the next eight days or so, let me know, speak soon, Stay Lucky
I dont really know how that last line fits in, but the rest of it I think is right.

| "Stop pacing around and waiting around For some moment that might never arrive"
That sounds very familiar, like that line (or one very close to it that gives off the same idea) is in some other song I've heard before. I can't quite place it, though.

| Okay, I remember. That line was reminding me of Springsteen's lyrics in Badlands:
"You spend your life waiting for a moment that just don't come, Well don't waste your time waiting"
Not exactly a reference, just a similar idea.

I think it's 'speak soon', not speak to. |

And what's the Jersey accent in Manhattan? How else do you say it?

On Stay Lucky at 2:13 I can hear Brian screaming something like 'I say...' did anyone pick up on that?
Thanks |

To me it sounds like he says "to a place you bought out in Makoka". Quite sure i'm hearing the makoka word wrong, can't figure out what else it could possibly be. But I'm positive i hear the other word as 'bought'

| Still feel like it's an allusion to "Stay Free." Maybe not directly, but the way it ends really makes me think of it. | |

| Maybe he's referring to Days Like This by Van Morrison. And yeah definitely sounds like Stay Free. | |

I dont really know how that last line fits in, but the rest of it I think is right. apparently this comment links to an email Brian sent to Kerrang magazine which is kinda cool!

| Does anyone know what 'it' means when he sings 'You're never gonna find it when your knees got so weak, but it's right here in case you need it'
Just wondered if anyone knew what he was talking about in that line.

| I don't think that line is specific to anything about Brian.
Personally what I take from that line (and most of the song tbh) is that you won't get whatever it is you want ("you're never gonna find it") by sitting around feeling sorry for yourself (when you're knees got so weak")

I think it's also saying that you need to try and recapture your youth when you took chances and got rewards from them. When you were lucky I guess, whatever the situation might have been and not to sit around wishing for things when you could have them if you take opportunities that come to you.
