Jersey band Gaslight Anthem is among bands that will honor The Who's music at Carengie Hall. The Smithereens, Gov’t Mule, Gaslight Anthem and Robyn Hitchcock will be among the artists performing songs of the Who on March 2 at Carnegie Hall.
This show — part of a series that has already honored artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and R.E.M. — will feature about 20 acts, performing one song apiece.
Others confirmed for the show — a benefit for various music education programs, including Music Unites All-Youth Choir and the American Symphony Orchestra — include Frank Black, Bobby McFerrin, Living Colour, Mose Allison, the Postelles and Sondre Lerche.
It is not known if members of the Who will attend.

They've mentioned it will in the past. I'm not a big fan of the Who but I think Gaslight could do some good covers. Will this be on TV?

| Didn't think it was that great tbh! Brian sounds slightly different, a bit forced or something. His voice is way deeper than anything I've heard from his recently.
I do like the way he and BAlex got all dressed up and GAlex shows up in a t-shirt and hoody!

| Brian's voice could just sound different from the audio quality of the video? I dunno. I noticed it too, though. | |

I thought that was great. Much better than the Pearl Jam versions I've heard on YouTube. The outro was fun, and Benny Moon did really well too. Incidentally, here is what Spinner UK had to say about it [ www.spinnermusic.co.uk/2010/03/03/who-tribute-carnegie-hall/ ]: "Best of all were upstart New Jersey roots-punk quartet the Gaslight Anthem, who plowed through a loud and sloppy 'Baba O'Riley,' and soul survivor Bettye LaVette, who turned in a stark, devastating 'Love Reign O'er Me.' Gaslight and LaVette succeeded in highlighting the two components of Townshend's genius songwriting: aggression and vulnerability. Many of the night's other performers did likewise, but not with the same conviction." Also, here's another video, which includes more of the intro, though it shows that they largely skip the synth part. The sound on that video is really bad though and it cuts out before the song finishes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bRI4w9rv8o

| About his voice, does anyone else just think that he subconsciously sang the song a bit like Roger Daltrey? That's just what it sounds like to me. | |
