Those are the only ones I listen to. Sometimes one of the other songs will start playing and I'll let it go, but I always end up skipping it part way through.

I think if you don't have Sweet Morphine in your top 5 then you deserve to be locked up with the key thrown away. Let's leave The Beatles out of this, shall we? Or you might get locked up and the key thrown away.

| This was tougher than I thought it would be. Really the only one I don't love is Helter Skeleton. It has bits I love, but the opening sounds kind of like a 90's sitcom jingle.
Overall, even the song I like the least is still pretty dang good. :-)
1. Stray Paper 2. 1000 Years 3. Get Hurt 4. Halloween (I like Brian's solo live version better) 5. Underneath the Ground 6. Aint That a Shame 7. Sweet Morphine 8. Rollin and Tumblin 9. | Let's give it a try:
1.) Dark Places 2.) Ain't That a Shame 3.) 1,000 Years 4.) Underneath the Ground 5.) Get Hurt 6.) Rollin' and Tumblin' 7.) Stray Paper 8.) Selected Poems 9.) Break Your Heart 10.) Stay Vicious 11.) Red Violins 12.) Helter Skeleton
- Ain't That a Shame was in my bottom 3 on first couple listens, now I absolutely love it
- Break Your Heart >>> National Anthem
- I enjoy Helter Skeleton live but it's definitely my least favorite on the album right now. The "Uhh, uhh uhh" part reminds me of Tommy's terrible sex song from Bob's Burgers

| To be honest the stuff on this album doesn't really move me enough to rank them. The ones that separate themselves from the rest of the pack (for me) would be:
1) Have Mercy 2) Stay Vicious 3) Break Your Heart 4) 1,000 Years 5) Sweet Morphine
There are other songs I like but as a whole this album doesn't speak to me at all.

Agreed! I love this album, but that song does nothing for me. I mean, the sound itself is ok to me, but it just kinda bores me. I don't feel like it really goes anywhere. I can't help but press "next" after the first verse or chorus.

| I would have to do it this way. 12 of the songs are absolutely incredible, killer songs that work really well together. Those are:
Stay Vicious 1,000 Years Get Hurt Helter Skeleton Underneath The Ground Rollin' and Tumblin' Red Violins Selected Poems Ain't That A Shame Dark Places Sweet Morphine Have Mercy
Stray Paper and Break Your Heart really just do not do anything for me at all. If I listen to them on their own, neither one of them are bad songs, but both musically and lyrically I feel like they're just spinning their wheels and are both examples of something they've done better elsewhere, both on this album and others.
Halloween is an absolutely amazing song, and I'm really glad to finally have a proper studio recording of it, but to me it will always feel like Handwritten era. I know that's a personal hang-up of mine, and a reflection of how closely I follow this band and their output, but I'd be lying if I said I felt like it fits on Get Hurt.
Mama's Boys - I LOVE this song, but to me it's just too stylistically different from everything else to really fit.
Random afterthought: I absolutely f---ing love Gaslight doing the Mama's Boys style - I really wish Brian saved all the Molly & The Zombies songs and they just did those type of songs with stuff like Mama's Boys and Sweet Morphine as a full album in that style.

| I really do dig Break Your Heart on its own. At first it sounded like something Tom Petty could sing - and that's not at all a bad thing. But this album also came out the day after Robin Williams' tragic passing, and once I related that song to his story, I couldn't un-hear it. So I consider it pretty special, now, like in an eerie way, amongst the rest of the album. | |
