oh i will if i see him, after i follow him around with a guitar until he lets me play in his band. I don't really know whether everyone is staying yet or not it all a bit up in the air, its a wait and see scenario i think. I will probably initiate operation solo project soon anyway.

Just finished up a self-produced/self-released record that I'm super proud of. You can give a listen (or grab a free download) here:
http://www.last.fm/music/Streetcar+Graffiti
EDIT: As far as what it sounds like, I listed five influences I consider most important on last.fm as follows: The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Hot Water Music, The Gaslight Anthem, and The Menzingers. No idea if the final product resembles any of those, but...yeah.

Nice, dude! I remember listening to your songs a couple of years ago and one can really tell how you have progressed with your songwriting.

I'm quite enjoying "Youthful Dreams" by Streetcar Graffiti
A few of our acoustic-demo-videos from our originals and some live footage of covers. I play guitar.

Hello, I'd hate for you guys to think I'm being a spammer, as I've not got that many posts, and I've been lurking for a while, but my band is releasing our new record tomorrow. I thought I'd post it here for a special treat.
We're The Broken Classic, an acoustic two piece. I sing and my friend plays guitar. We're both heavily influenced by Gaslight (obviously), and I hope that it shows in the lyrics, which I've spent bloody ages on.
There's no album art yet either, so if any of you are good with photoshop and would like to knock us together something, that would be super awesome.
Anyway, I really hope you like it, and if you only listen to one song, make it 'You Deserve Me' because that's my favourite:

I listened to the first and last song on there and they were both very good. I do like the lyrics and the music behind them is good too. Downloaded all the songs so I can listen to the rest later.

I love the DSS community's musical talents. I have so much to catch up on in this thread (haven't been a regular on here in 2 years or something like that) but I promise I will make every effort.

Really dig this song, good stuff.
My songwriting is for shit, but I do have a soundcloud full of covers, lots of gaslight among others.

We've talked of doing it before. Personally I think we could do one of originals and one of the best TGA covers from the site.

Well, I can't speak for him, but for me practice and patience is the only thing that actually helped me in singing with grit/roughness/gruffness/whatever.
Of course you can smoke and drink a lot, but it's easier to just be very patient, experiment with things, and drink lots of water. And listen to what your body (your voice, in this case) is telling you. If it feels like your throat is on fire after you sang one verse of a song, that's not a good sign.

Hey JohnnyC your new songs sound good and I'm pretty sure I still have most of your old stuff on my laptop but I would recommend uploading your songs to Bandcamp. Then people don't have to download them one by one.

THanks, man. Yeah, I definitely should and I know how to do it, but I'm sure I'll put it off for a long time before I get around to doing it haha.
EDIT: I think maybe there's some twisted logic behind my obsession with last.fm and its inconvenient downloading other than laziness. If I put stuff on BandCamp it's very easy to access, but there's a tendency to just download with one click, put it on in the background, and forget about it while you're doing something else. I know how it works, since I do it all the time with other people's music haha. With last.fm there's a concerted effort to getting the songs on your computer (although, let's be honest, it's still pretty easy). It forces the listener to engage, which is the only kind of listener I'm interested in having, honestly. I'm not trying to "make it" in music, so the only reason I put this stuff out there because I would like to think these are good songs that deserved to be listened to, not necessarily just heard.
That probably sounds pretentious (actually, it definitely sounds pretentious) but meh...I think there's some truth (dare I say wisdom?) in it.

This is the band I played in when I was in high school.
It's not very original and the production is horrible, but I suppose it's punk rock so I figured I'd upload it for nostalgic reasons and share it with you. I play the bass and do backing vocals. http://soundcloud.com/melacksweden

I checked a couple of these tunes out, and as a fellow purveyor of the low-end, I have to say that you, sir, play a pretty mean bass guitar! Nice playing!

I can attest that I listened to the whole album only because it took forever to download.

Hey Johnny C, I just listened to a couple of your songs on Last.fm. You've got a good sound! The last one was "As Fast As She Can." It's pretty rockin' man.

Yeah, definitely. Keep on playing for sure! It's always cool to see bands play locally in cities and such. I remember when I used to live in the Seattle area, there were a bunch of smaller shows. Sometimes those are the coolest to go to because it's more fun in a way, plus you don't have to shell a lot of dough to see good quality music.
