| So Tom Petty's A&R man said "I don't hear a single" ('The Great Wide Open').
As I hear tons of singles on American Slang, and as I really like the poll option on here, I'd like to know which song you would suggest as the first single if you were managing the Gaslight Anthem, especially if you wanted to get maximum airplay and increase their audience.

| American Slang. It's still a bit upbeat and is a really good transitional song from The '59 Sound to American Slang. I actually listened to The Backseat followed by American Slang and it ruled. | |

| I voted for Orphans. I reckon the guitar intro could capture a lot of ears. Brian kills vocals on it too. The last quater of the song is great to sing along to (if I knew the words!)
Although AS, BIO or Boxer would be good choices for singles too.

| Bring It On. It's catchy, upbeat, and does a great job introducing the sound of the record to the listener. It's not my favorite song off the record (right now it's Diamond Church Street Choir) but it's a great single choice, I think. | |

| I think the massive chorus of Diamond Church would be a hit on the radio. | |

| Here's the thing. I think TDCSC is by far the best track on the record, but don't you think it's too rootsy sounding for the radio? The little guitar intro with the snapping just seems way too soulful for this generation. I don't know, just wondering. | |

| Bring it On is my first choice. AS, Stay Lucky, Orphans, Boxer, Old Haunts, or Spirit of Jazz would work too. I'm a little surprised no one has voted for Boxer; that intro would be quite a hook for anyone listening on the radio.
As much as I love Diamond Street, I think it will always be a song that is more loved by the fans than the public at large.

| Is American Slang not already a single? I thought it was getting some airplay. | |

but is it a single if you can't go and buy it and it doesn't count for the charts? In America we don't have that at all, other than 7 inch releases and stuff like that. I guess digital, but CD singles don't happen here.

Hmm, never thought about it before. More just a SOS track than 1930 specifically. Good tune.

So the three T59S CDs singles were European issues only? That means you guys missed out on the five live 'B Sides' that came with those. Actually, I just checked Amazon US and they do show them as 'imports', so you're right.
