Don't think I saw a threat specific to this show.
This was an epic show for many reasons.
First for it to be at the Basie in his hometown was clearly a big deal. I've lived here for 20 years so it was for me. He was clearly excited about that.
The new Basie "club" set up was fantastic on a side note.
Opening with 59 sound on piano no less was a shock. It sounded GREAT. I took it as a we aren't going to talk about the reunion tonight but it's real and get ready type of performance. And while we have heard plenty of slows down acoustic performances before this version beat all of those. Coupled with the show ending with Forget Me Not also on piano, these versions really highlighted how dark and deep these lyrics are. In a good way.
See You On the Other Side was great also live. You could feel the crowd really listening and feeling the lyrics to that song.
The highlights though were the covers. Really loved Heart of Gold. but spirit in the Night. Wow. Just wow.
