I loved Handwritten, and I think it gets talked down by some people (naturally) because they felt it was a sellout (ugh...that word).
I get how they felt it was softer maybe....but it was a very good album to me, a very cohesive one.
This feels different to me, but it's still clearly a TGA song.
Now I'm just excited to find out how it will be changed by the songs around it!

Wonderfully written. And I also like Handwritten (as much as the other albums)

I love the sound during "I don't want to be devoted" and after "firework".
The chimes during the wind chime line were a nice touch.
Even though the last verse can be hard to follow lyrically, I love the melody and the way his voice flows.

This is not my favorite.

I remember hearing the NPR stream of Handwritten and being enthralled, barely able to contain myself....

Now I'm just sad. But its not that I wasn't expecting this type of sound, because Brian gave everybody a PSA of sorts, its just not something I care for. Hopefully I'll like a couple of the songs. Expectations are extremely low. Ah well. Still will buy a copy since I've been listening to them for close to 7 years.

So, are we hearing a radio play hit single here, or just something for the fans for now, with the wider audience single still to follow? How are your non-TGA friends reacting to this?

They're playing it on Radio1 later today, so they're premiering it essentially the same way they did 45 (except with it being available to download about 14 hours earlier). It's definitely the radio single.

The couple of casual fan friends who I've gotten to listen to it have liked it, FWIW.

great track! Really excited for the album. I do have one small niggle though( I am English so moaning is standard) the way Gaslight go through the final third of this song is kinda samey, like the whole beginning feels fresh then in the final moments you could mixed 4-5 other gaslight songs at the end and it would sound the same. It could almost be Bring It On by the end. Does anyone else at least partially agree?

Actually 100% disagree. I don't think it gets going until that extended coda. Hopefully the rest of it grows on me. Couldn't make out a damn thing other than "rollin' and tumblin'"

First time through I didn't really like it, too different, almost?  And now I'm just replaying it over and over and digging the Hell out of it, haha.

Nice work with figuring ut the lyrics! Most accurate one I've seen yet, and I'm also having trouble making

Really dig this, but I'm trying hard to tame my excitement and let it hit me when it comes along as a full album.

There is some, but not really a featured sound on any of them. This record has a lot more going on musically than any other gaslight record. If I had to describe it overall I would say it has the intensity of sink or swim but more mature and refined.

What about Brian's vocals? Are more of the tracks similar to Rollin' & Tumblin' OR more grungy like the teaser (reportedly Stay Vicious)?

I'd say more like rollin' & tumblin'. If anyone has doubts about the teaser song, don't. The chorus is classic gaslight and makes the main riff and verses all the better

Can't answer that because I'm not sure what makes a band break through anymore. I thought bring it on would be a huge hit, and then thought 45 and here comes my man would be massive. But I hope so. There are a bunch of songs on this record that I think could be massive hits

Yeah, that's true. Personally thought "Handwritten" and "45" were gonna break 'em huge, from the first time I heard them.

Nothing has ever sounded more like TGA than this song actually. Dunno if that is supposed to be the "confortable and reassuring song" but it sounds awesome.
