I discovered The Gaslight Anthem on a music blog in early 2010—“The ’59 Sound” was on someone’s best of the year list. I heard it and was hooked immediately. What a great day. When you first start to fall in love with a new favorite band, it is such a crazy, wonderful experience. I am also a huge Hold Steady fan.
I am so excited to hear the new material. I am pretty much living for Tuesday right now, when we can hear the new single. And after that I will be living for August 19.
What Brian said about “don’t drive the first time you listen to the new album” is kind of concerning. I’m wondering if it the album will be excessively crazy or non-Gaslighty or really angry.
But I suppose Sink or Swim was really angry, and I love it (OMG 1930), so perhaps The Gaslight Anthem can do no wrong (sounds about right to me). My husband notes that the cover art makes it seem like Get Hurt will be a breakup album, which is right up my alley. YES PLEASE. When Handwritten came out, it was pretty much all I listened to for a whole year.
