I actually wrote a happy, optimistic song. This is different for me, since most of my stuff lives in the gritty, dark, downtrodden, hurt, and lost side of music.

So I'm sure this has come up before, but the guy in the "Bring It On" film clip is totally Dave Hause right?

tell me about it. They're crazy good. Did you notice the lyrical connection between "New Old" and "Adventure Tortoise"?

In "New Old" a line says "and you?/your songs write themselves" then in "Adventure Tortoise" a line says "You know, I haven't stopped humming your songs."
I don't know if it was intentional, or if its even something, but I thought it was interesting.

they are AWESOME!! just getting into them more and more. I like how they manage to sound heavy and slow and nevertheless put so much motion and energy into the songs.
On a Sidenote playing it on 45rpm may sound even better - i haven't made up my mind yet

Well, work last night had an awkward moment. The grocery store has a lot of kids that come in, and apparently I am a natural with babies/young kids. Well anyway, after they left she asked me "When are you going to have your own?"

Nah, you should have said, "Just give me the time and place, baby!" That was your CHANCE Jimmy! She wanted to have your babies

Playing at the Stone Pony again, this time in the first round of the Rock To The Top competition. Which has some insane prizes for the winner and runner-up.

Sadly no, that could possibly make them more bearable. Far too many years of hearing the screaming kid on table 5 and the useless parents not taking the hint that everyone everywhere hates them and leaving til the kid shuts up.
Sorry, this is mining a deep vein of vitriol...

Move to Finland and become a bartender here. If you bring children in to a bar somebody will call the childcare right away and take the kid away from his/her bad parents...

Well, almost. You veryvery rarely see children at bars. Of course if theres some real food then its a different thing. I would like to have more normal barculture with children and animals or stuff...not just some glasseyed dickheads saying nothing to each others. Of course after 4a.m they start to talk...with fists. If they can still standup or stay awake But pretty girls=check awesome metal bands=no! I hate most of them forrest=check. Forrest are awesome! snow=well...its cool, but too goddamn long time. and the darkness in winter makes you want to kill yourself

The bar culture here is kinda in transition at the moment. The old traditional pubs here are very much like you describe, glass-eyed angry dudes drinking and fighting. But the new small bars opening (like the ones I work in) are pretty cool. But just not very "family friendly" I guess.
As for the metal thing, I've been kinda out of the scene for ten years or so, back when I was still keeping up on things it was all Nightwish and Children of Bodom.
And I'll trade you 4 months of 35 degrees plus (even at midnight... it's nasty) for the dark any day man.
