| Is anyone else in a musical "rut" lately? I've been looking for some new bands to get into and haven't found all that much that appeals. Any suggestions? | |

go in peace It's weird you talk about those artists. Just found a few of them yesterday myself. Weird coincidence. As for my suggestion, The National, Bonsai Trees, City and Colour, Resotrations, Arctic Monkeys, The Greenhornes. The new Beck album is really good, too.

I'd say newer bands with a sort of garage rock but still melodic sound, and solid lyrics. Good sounding music only takes me so far, it's the lyrics that'll keep me coming back. I'm mostly drawn to lyrics about lost loves, the wounded lover and Americana kind of thing that Brian Fallon has made a living doing. Having said that, I'm pretty open to expanding my palette. I recently picked up The Neighbourhood's album from last year and I'm really digging it - it's very ambient. As for the other suggestions from everyone else, I'll have to do some digging! Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESRofDkmg0I Matt Mays. I only recently discovered this guy because apparently he follows some fellow forum member on twitter or something, but this song is amazing. He's Canadian but this is just a perfect piece of Americana rock'n'roll. Other than that, check out Robert Francis. I'm constantly trying to get people to like him because I feel like he's an underrated genius. He's got this Californian kinda pop/rock sound that sounds different from anything else I've heard. Check out either of his songs, but some of my favorites are Junebug, Alibi, Perfectly yours and Little girl.

| So do I. We've got some new ones to play. Not that they're very good, or its a huge show. Just an open mic at school. I SHOULD be doing an acoustic version of Blue Dahlia with a friend if everything works out. | |

| It went quite well! The crowd wasn't bigger than 20 or 30 people but it was a good time nonetheless. I played mostly solo stuff, including my very first Swedish song. | |
