Listening to all of Handwritten for the first time in months. Forgot how much I actually like this album. Mulholland Drive especially.
It's a pretty decent album. I just don't like how soulless the production feels. It's just thick and way too clean.
Exactly. I've always like the songs themselves, but I would like to be able to hear the different guitars, and not just have a huge mound of sound. Hopefully this new LP will have better production.
I feel like the album would have suffered from different production
I don't know if it would have so much suffered as just been..different. Remember how Biloxi was before they went into the studio? I'm not even talking about the whole third verse controversy, because that changed before the studio, but live he sang that "all of my heros" verse with such soul and power. Look at his face in this video during that verse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39zT7_Ahc0A . He's into it, and his voice is killing it. For some reason Brendan let that go on the album, and we get this robotic sound. It could have been much better with that vocal style.
One of my favorite things from the band has always been the sound of the rhythm guitar on Boxer, very gritty and such. I don't hear much like that on Handwritten. But imagine that tone on Handwritten, as the song. That may have been a band thing, but Brendan could have certainly led them to more of those tones they used on their previous stuff.
Wrong thread for this rant I'm sure, so sorry guys. And if I put my foot in my mouth about anything, sorry about that too.

Out of curiosity, I'm a hockey fan and my favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings which has a bunch of Swedish players.

Are most of the names pronounced how they look spelled or are there certain phonetic pronunciations that we just "Americanize" because it's easier for us?
For example Johan Franzen we pronounce "Yo-han (star wars) Fron-zen"

Hey thanks for doing that. We definitely emphasize different syllables in some of those names but I guess that's sort of expected with different accents and obviously the intricacies like with Nyquist are not even attempted here. Hearing the real pronunciations for some reason is so much more satisfying than our bland American accent.

I don't believe so. That was one of the weird parts about my dream. It seemed that eating lucky charms at the same time just made my flute playing that much better.
