A forum dedicated to The Gaslight Anthem - Brian Fallon says: ''For consistent and up to the minute stuff, Dimestore Saints is a great place to check out and hang with some really nice people.''
weird how this cd seems to result in so many different opinions amongst fans i am not that keen on juniper (although ironically came on my stereo today driving home in the sun after a long week at work and actually really enjoyed it)
on the other hand , who are you waiting on is my absolute favourite song on the cd and one of my favourite songs by the band

To me the WYWO sounds kinda Jimmy Buffett or something? But I like the acoustic version a lot better. Also, I don't flat out HATE any song, but WYWO is just not my thing right now. As for Juniper I always liked it fine, just like it a lot better live.
I know someone who was a huge Lucero fan but bailed after he heard W&W. But, he's a jackass anyway so what does he know.

How could you just bail after one album if you were that great fan? Escpecially since Lucero has such an extensive back-catalog. I can understand if it was someone who'd been a fan for a long time and had enjoyed their work up until they veered away from being just a country band.

I don't know what his deal is. It was almost like he couldn't wait to announce it. When I told him I was going to see them he said "Welcome to the party. It's a shame I've already left."
And, I should mention HE is the one who initially really encouraged me to get into them. Then when W&W came out he was all "See ya." ?! Weirdo.
Lucero is basically early-’70s Stones melodies with Social Distortion swagger (and a dash of the Clash, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd Memphis horns). I really wish I stumbled across them before the band wasn’t a decade old.
Here I am talking to Ben Nichols from Lucero about his promise to me in an Orlando bar the night before to me to play this song for my 3 year old boy at the in store show in St Pete
Thanks Yeah it was quite a 3 day trip--got to see the in-store show in the day and 3 headliner shows each evening.
After the Orlando show I got to hang oout and drink at a bar with Ben Nichols --I showed him Lorraine Schwartz's blogs about him and the band and he loved it. I live blogged the moment with Lorraine on Twitter. I think she is on DSS.
Liked it so much that I am headed back to Md. and Pa. in a few weeks for 2 more shows.
Here is a pic of Ben from behind--my fmaily and me are up fron to the left

Finally gave this a proper listen after my sister kept reminded me how great it is! Easily the best first-listen-of-a-Lucero album for me. Enjoyed every song honestly.

You need to see them live. I will be at this show up your way Sunday June 24
Sun 06/24 Lucero with special guests The Robbie Jay Band 8:00pm All Ages
Lucero is an alt-country/punk rock band from Memphis, TN. Formed in 1998, the six-piece has built its reputation on writing sing-along songs about small town life and love, putting a modern edge on classic Americana subjects. The members may look like tattooed tough guys, but they write resonant songs that tug the heartstrings of even the most hardened rock fan. Lead singer Ben Nichols’ signature whiskey-soaked voice is arguably one of the most recognizable in rock and roll today.
