Gaslight Tattoo Project

Hey guys!

So a friend and I have been throwing around the idea of doing some fan project for Gaslight for a while now and with Handwritten coming out and a new tour, we thought now would be perfect. So, here’s what we’re gonna do: we know that tattoos are obviously important to all of the band members, and that at least Brian has several music-related tattoos. We also know that a lot of Gaslight fans have Gaslight-inspired tattoos. So we want to make a tattoo book of all the Gaslight tattoos we can get!

So if you want to be a part of this, here's what you need to do!

Email us a photo of your Gaslight tattoo to americanslang91@gmail.com. Make sure it’s good quality, not like a bad cell pic or something. This is going to be printed and nice-looking! Please include the artist if you know who did it; gotta give ‘em credit! Also include a brief statement of what the tattoo means to you, how you were inspired to get it, etc. (Please don’t make it more than half a page. Shorter is absolutely fine, just be sure to get your point across!) Also include your name (just first, or first and last if you want!) and where you’re from (city, country, whatever you’re comfortable with). Feel free to also include a face pic! (But not required.)

Horrible Crowes (and all other side projects related to Gaslight!) are welcome too! If you have more than one, send them all! All tattoos submitted that fit all the criteria will be included, and your info won’t be used for anything else or given to anyone.

We're setting a due date of June 15th so we have enough time get the book made (and we're going to be giving them this at the Boston show on July 22nd). We're also hoping for this to stay a surprise, so it's been posted on tumblr but not on facebook or anywhere else. But of course, feel free to pass the word along to anybody you know!

I'm sure you could even ask some of the posters directly to partake in the book. I think the guys would enjoy it - I recently saw an interview where Brian said it was (something along the lines of) honoring, humbling, thankful that people get tattoos inspired by Gaslight

there are some great tattoos in that thread. It'd be a dick move to use anything without anybody's permission though, so asking people is a good idea! I hadn't really thought of that, thanks.

There will definitely be photos posted once it's finished! People seem receptive, for the most part, so we're excited. It just seemed like a fitting thing to do

I mean, obviously with band/lyric tattoos, there's bound to be some overlap (I have the 33 RPM line from Blue Jeans on my arm, which is pretty common), but it doesn't make it any less awesome! Different reasons behind it, different style, different placements. I could go on, but basically, it'd be fantastic if you sent it in!

(also, I don't think anybody has sent a "no retreats, no regrets" tat yet, so at the very least, you'd be the first, haha)

This is a great Idea. I have like 4 or 5 planned but sadly I don't have the money right now to get them in time for this. Sounds awesome though. I'll be at this show too so if you guys want to meet up, maybe we could get as many dimestore saints as possible who are going to be there to be there when you give them this. I just think it'd be a cool moment for everyone to see. Just an idea. If not it'd still be nice to meet other people who are going!

This sounds like it'll turn out great! Makes me want to get a tattoo

Ahhh, more inspiration to get a TGA tattoo. I just might cave!

I've been wanting one for awhile! I could use some inspiration. Would also love to see what others have done so far!

Its never creepy to receive a compliment! Thank you. And I am so excited! I ACTUALLY just got tickets to the Atlantic City show! wooooo!

I've been mulling over the idea of one for ages now, probably won't have one by then but this is such a cool idea!

Think I'm gonna wait for Handwritten before making a final decision on one.

oh wow, quite a few people on tumblr are going too. Sounds like everybody's going to be there, awesome. Honestly, we haven't planned the actual giving part or anything yet (I have not even booked a flight, so I've got no clue when I'm getting into the city), but when it gets closer to the actual concert date, we'll probably have a plan! Personally, I'm always up to meeting new Gaslight fans though

Sweet! Yeah I'm bringing a friend who is slowly becoming a fan but I'd love to meet actual fans (since I don't personally know anyone who is). That's awesome you're flying in. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to drive in so I give you credit.

I want to submit mine for the book, but I need to get a better picture taken...

Hah, I bugged my friend into listening to them when they came to my city a few years ago and she likes them, but I have an inability to shut up about them so she's likely sick of hearing about them. So meeting actual fans is the best! I've never been to Boston so that was a motivating factor, but I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to see them in a small venue.

You've got three weeks! It just needs to big enough so it won't look like a pixelly mess when it's printed.

Hahah, I have that same inability to shut up about them, but if my friends would just become fans I'd shut up. Haha (no I wouldn't). All my friends listen to is mainstream garbage . With how much I love music it's amazing we all get along.

Also, Boston's a great city! (Of course I'm biased, being a Red Sox fan and all)

ok whoa that was fast. I just realised I never posted pictures of the finished project, so here is the cover:

I will attempt to figure out a way for everybody to see it soon! I sent everybody who submitted their page and I'm pretty biased, but it turned out excellent. I just have to blank out all the personal information and such, but I am on vacation now so it'll have to wait for another week, haha.

um, we gave it to Benny right before the show started - we were there at 1, but they didn't really come out to talk to anybody in the line at all, so we ended up yelling at Benny that we had a gift for him and he came over (after he hung up the phone, oops). Basically he thought it was awesome and he said he was really touched by it. He said that they'd probably get into an argument over who got to keep it, but he was going to take it because we gave it to him, haha. then he asked us to sign it, which was unexpected. Laura signed it "to Gaslight, love Laura". And then my brain completely quit on me and I had no idea what to say so I ended up signing it "also to Gaslight, love Sally" hahaha. A chance to write something to the band and that's what I go with because I apparently can't handle any kind of pressure hah.

After the show, we asked him if he showed the rest of the guys yet and he said no, it was still in his car so he'd show it to them tomorrow but his girlfriend saw it and thought it was awesome. and yeah, I'm seeing them at Webster Hall so I'll try and ask after it again.

I think that's it, I'm sure I missed stuff, but I am pretty overwhelmed right now.
