| The Gaslight Anthem played a special acoustic set on the Rise Against tour for this date because 2 members had to leave the tour for a while to attend the funeral of a family member. It was a sad thing for sure, but the weight of the situation lent an air of poignancy, wistfulness and hope to the songs. I think that comes through pretty clearly in the recording. The volume is a little low, not terribly so, but you'll want to turn it up a little more than you normally would. That said, it's a REALLY clean recording for all but the intro. They came out on stage just as I was coming back from the restroom, so it took me a second to get my recorder turned on, set to record and in it's holder. But this only effects the intro track. And speaking of intros and such, I always try to leave in all of the talking on stage between songs. I think it really helps in capturing the feel of each show and sets it in that specific time and place in the band's and audience's history. But I always try to put those interludes into separate tracks where possible, in case folks want to skip over them or put a song on a mix tape or something. The image above is the album art I did for this show, using a photo I took at it. The only thing that I ask is that you if you share these files is that you keep the zip file I've linked to intact, with the text file and image I've included, or just share the link to this thread. Thanks a ton. Download link in bold. Enjoy. DOWNLOAD LINKThe Gaslight Anthem Live in Baltimore - 10/12/2008 Ram's Head Live! Recorded by Anthony Bowman Recorded on a Zoom H2 256 Kbps mp3s 01. Intro - This One's For Ben 02. Great Expectations 03. Navesink Banks 04. Respectable - Interlude 1 05. The '59 Sound 06. Hangin' Off Me Like Ghosts - Interlude 2 07. Here's Looking at You, Kid 08. If Only - Interlude 3 09. Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts 10. A Letter to Elise - The Cure cover VIDEO: I was able to get 4 full songs of video before my memory card filled up. The audio and video quality is pretty great, considering this was ostensibly a still camera. It's a Canon G9 for those interested, and I love it. I can't recommend it more highly. There's a new model of it out, the G10, but if you can find a dela on the 9, you won't be disappointed. The links go to each song's Vimeo page, and I would really appreciate it if you would leave some comments. "The '59 Sound"

"Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts"
"A Letter to Elise" (The Cure cover)

You really did a nice job, if I ever see you at a DC area show, I'll buy the first beer. thanks. free beer is always nice. what makes me sad is that when i post these things, one of every 20 or thirty people who download ever comment. ahh well. and for the record, i was born in '78. either way, glad you enjoyed it. i gave a copy of my Boston recording to Gaslight's merch guy at the Baltimore show, with my album art and e-mail address, but i never heard from them or anything. wasn't expecting to, but it'd be cool, ya know? i'm hoping to pass a long a copy of this to them the next time i see them. that said, i did a live recording of Ben Nichols from Lucero at the Black Cat in D.C. back in January, and he ended up using it on a tour CD he did with Chuck Ragan and Tim Barry called Revival Road, for the Revival Tour, so that was pretty amazing.

I don't have the Ben Nichols online right now, but i will later today. in the mean time to tide you over, here's Frank Turner's set(he, as i'm sure you know, is opening for Gaslight on the Europ dates) from10/14/2008 at the Black Cat on the Revival Tour. http://dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/22631/FrankTurner-10-14-2008.zip no album art or track names in this yet, though. i didn't have time for it when i put this online for a friend. i've also got Glossary and Lucero recordings from 8/13/2008 at Ottobar in Baltimore to post, once I get a chance to do up some album art for them. gimme another day to do that, and i'll post those as well. my record was the best $175 i ever spent. hah.

| Nope. I've never been plugged into the board. A lot of venues ban recording gear of any sort even if the bands are cool with it, so I try really hard not to make it obvious what my little gadget is. Hah. Twice I've managed to convince security that the recorder is an external drive/ memory card reader for my camera, point-and-shoot cameras generally being allowed. Guerriilla recording for the win! I either hand-hold the recorder or hand it from an extra camer strap, or hang it from a convenient railing or barrier. I try to get to shows as early as I can, so as to position myself for best viewing and recording. My days of mixing it up in the pit are long since past, even if the tunes still mean the world to me. I once almost got knocked out cold at a Hot Water Music show back in '98 when Chris Wollard (guitar/vocals) kicked his mike stand into the crowd for the chorus on "Turnstile." Took a Shure SM-58 across to bridge of my nose at what had to be terminal velocity. Woulda went down like a truckstop hooker, but the crowd was jamming so hard to the front that I was held upright long enough for me to recover and finish the song with my fist in the air, my throat raw and voice lost for the night and next day, and my heart on fire. True story. Anyway, I try to get myself somewhere facing the PA system, but not right up against it, like up in the balcony at the 930 Club or Ottobar or Ram's Head Live, so I can still see the bands but be able to get a clean sound off the PA without the crowd between me and the sound. The marvel of technology that is the Zoom H2 does the rest. And I just lucked out that my camera does such clean audio and video. Hah. | |

| Wow, that is by far the best handheld recording that I have ever heard! I have always wanted to slip the sound engineer like twenty bucks to hook up a recording device. | |

yeah. it was pretty intense. Brian was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a big knitted cap which was very Springsteen-circa '73 of him. And it was fabulous. this is the recorder i have. http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodid=1916 it's relatively small, runs on AA batteries and uses SD cards to record on, which my camera also uses, so i have a stack of them floating around. i always use the read, 120 degree spread mics for my recordings, to draw from a wider field of sound. you never know which side of the PA is going to sound better. hah. and you can listen to your recordings directly from it, so i always plug it in to the tape adapter in the car and blast the recording on the way home.

| I doubt $20 would get very far from the guy running the sound board. I used to volunteer at a club once and the sound guy was pretty anal about that shit. It's a BIG no no to let those recordings out and about and could ruin their reputation and their chances of getting work in the future. Couldn't hurt to try though By the way, the H2 is so nice. I'd love to grab one, but their just a little beyond what I can afford right now. Maybe for christmas. I tried using my iPhone on the revival tour and it was so blown out. But I had to try at some point... Glad to hear the recording is nice. I'm gonna download this on my phone as soon as I leave the house and check it out later tonight! | |

Plus that one for $125 is already gone I saw a couple in the $160 range a week or two ago, gonna go look at a car tomorrow, so maybe I'll work the guy down a few hundred and pick one up!

| Thanks for this the videos are ace. You are right the G9 is a very nice camera. We used to sell shed loads of them at work. If I didnt need an SLR for the majority of my stuff (mostly working shooting gigs though I have been a bit lax recently with uni and everything) I would probably have one. I need to find a publication down here though to take me on so I can get covering stuff again.
Will download while im in lecture so I can have a nice suprise when I get back.
