- Bruce is one of the most real and genuine people out there, and I like him more and more as the years go on. More people should be caring and compassionate like Bruce.
On April 4, 1998 (anniversary of MLK's murder), I was in the Hamptons since I heard in a Web 1.0 listerv (Kevin Kinder's Luckytown Digest) that Mr. Springsteen was playing benefit for John Steinbeck's wife in Sag Harbor. There were 160 tickets and I got some of the last tickets available via the phone. I was in the last row--which was 8th row. Not too shabby. Bruce played one song and I met him quickly--he said no autographs. After the "show" Bruce came outside to talk to us. It was a blustery night on Long Island Sound. We asked Bruce to pose for a photo with us. His body guard Terrry McGovern (who died recently) said, "C'mon Bruce, we got a charity dinner to attend." Bruce shot back, "Hold on, Terry--if it weren't for my fans, I would still be in Freehold [NJ] doing menial labor." Then the girl taking the pic was a new refugee from a former Ottoman Empire state and had trouble with the camera. Bruce told her to take her time and said that he was comfortable since me and another fan were smashed against him and keeping him warm. But that's' the kinda guy he is. Here is the pic

Can't wait to listen to this. I'm assuming the crowd was amazing which explains why Bruce played for 3hrs and 40 mins. So ridiculous.

| Anyone going to see Bruce on Friday in Manchester? Can anyone who has been to other gigs on this tour tell me how how the queuing system for pit entrance tickets has been working so far?
Are they using the lottery system/wrist bands? I'm aiming to head along about midday, any help/info be very much appreciated, especially if it rains!

The lottery system only applied in Italy as far as we know. The rest of the european tour is 'first come, first serve' and roll calls every two or three hours. The reports I've read suggests that the queing-system has worked just fine so far. Midday should do fine in Manchester I guess. You'll probably end up in the middle of the pit, just don't miss any roll-calls, you don't wanna loose your number. IF you can't get a good spot in the pit, I've been in front row behind the pit, and can recommand that as well. You might be able to lean on the fence there, the sound is usually very good there, and you're really not that much far back, compared to the people in the back half of the pit.

Thank you so much for the info, have found out some other stuff from few bruce message boards as well, but this is great. Saw Bruce at Cardiff (2008) and discovered him then, didnt really know much about him past BTR and Dancing etc by Glasto (2009) I was like a little kid at xmas and got with a few metres of the front, 3 years later his music means ever more to me and not quite sure if I will sleep between now and Friday, Thanks again matey!

| I've heard that to be there for roll call you need to be there at 14.00 the day before the show. Is this true? | |

Also, we probabbly won't be queing up till around 4 (opens at 5) so what are the chances of making the pit?

It all depends which number they draw. If you are #900 and they draw #100, only #100-#600 get int. If they draw #400 or above you are in.
