Saw Sugar Ray supporting KoRn WAYYY back in the day. Haha, oh man! Maybe Hanson had evolved past their MmmmBop days when you saw them. I could never stand them when they were so popular. And Sugar Ray was tolerable, I guess, but not my style. I feel old just for remembering them, because there are kids on this forum that were probably still in diapers when these bands were at the height of their popularity. Is it time to start checking out hearing aides and nursing homes yet?

| I won't lie, I quite enjoyed it, was funny to see how they had evolved from their teenybopper days, into quite decent musicians. As for Sugar Ray, it was long before their poppy offerings, I don't think I could have stomached that! Yeah, when you put it like that...way to make me feel older now | |

| Blimey, I know it's football (YES, FOOTBALL!!! NOT SOCCER ) but this is a mental article, certainly worth a few minutes of your time. It's about how players in Africa would lie about their age, and how easy it is to do so. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/feb/21/nigerian-football-age-old-problem

Yeah, when you put it like that...way to make me feel older now Sorry Gordon! We're not old, just older (Bon Jovi reference!). As far as Sugar Ray goes, I have this very vivid memory of a field trip my AP US History class took to Washington D.C. in 11th grade. My friends and I were too cool to hang out with the teachers and our lame classmates at the museums (obviously ), so we took the Metro to a huge mall nearby and they were all singing Every Morning at the top of their lungs like lunatics. It was so embarrassing!

HorribleCrowe, ahhh sorry, thought you meant the old movies, they are pretty evil, well, until the studio ran out of money, and Warner Bros. bought the rights and made them into Disney-like movies!

HorribleCrowe, ahhh sorry, thought you meant the old movies, they are pretty evil, well, until the studio ran out of money, and Warner Bros. bought the rights and made them into Disney-like movies! Nope, nothing wrong with Bon Jovi at all. My sister is a HUGE fan of theirs, and I have liked their music since the 80s when I was a kid. I think Just Older was from Crush, which was actually a pretty good album, not poo! Not nearly as good as Slippery When Wet or New Jersey though. Those albums are classic. Ahahaha, I never thought of Every Morning-era Sugar Ray being like Unkle Kracker, but now that you mention it, I totally see the similarities! Oh dear is right!

| I am dreamy- also because I just took allergy medicine and feel a little bit higher than I'd like! (Zyrtec)
I think Sharks believe in the basic punk way of life/attitude. But musically they don't sound like Black Flag or something like that.
I saw Sugar Ray in 2009. I was at their show to interview/cover Aimee Allen so I stayed to see them since I like a few songs. They were definitely like a party kind of show. I remember the DJ randomly playing a medle of other people's music in the middle of the set like we were at a bar or something (?!)
I really liked the New Jersey album a lot. Back then I didn't realize the Springsteen influence on them, but now- jeez it's all over the place! I see it in other bands at the time too (Aerosmith on Guns N'Roses, etc.)

| Care to expand? I interviewed them about being called punk and that's basically what they told me. - Quote :
- You've been labeled as "punk rock." Everyone seems to have a different definition of what "punk rock" means. What is yours?
ANDREW: I think because it's been tagged on so much, the actual musical term has just become stale. I think it really is just a spirit of what you're doing. It's like an ethos more than a certain genre of music. Do you feel having that term attached to you is at all confining, like you feel pressured to stick to certain guidelines musically or image-wise?
JAMES: If it's meant the way we want it to mean, like musical freedom and freedom from whatever else, then I'm glad they understand us. Because that's what we're trying to get through as people, with positive messages, provocative lyrics &artwork and just making people think. We kind of want to go against it (the perceived limitations of the tag 'punk rock') more than anything. ANDREW: We're not really tied down to anyone's thoughts or any particular journalist or anything. That's their opinion of it, and we'll just carry on doing what we're doing.

| basically the manager owns the band and makes a lot of key decisions. thats part of the reasons why the last two bass players got fired. One of the bass players (Im guessing the first one) was fired by the rest of the band because the manager gave them an ultimatum. either he goes or the bass players.
the manager is the one who got em on two big tours (AP and Warped) when no body knew who they were.
I mean I never realized how much control the manger had. kinda sucks finding out about this.

| I'm not going to say who told me this...just leaving it at someone who tours with Chuck
this changes nothing about the music...I'll still listen to em once in a while.
I'm just saying what I was told about the...I guess Punk Ethics side. |

I agree but still man. Can you imagine the TGA manager going to Brian and being like...get rid of Alex L and I'll get you a tour with Pearl Jam... |

| You should watch The Future Is Unwritten.
Sharks are young, they don't totally know WTF they're doing and need guidance. That's where the manager comes in. I don't know what the story is with the bass players. There may have been legit reasons they should get rid of those guys, like they're crackheads or they aren't dedicated enough to making a career of it. Who really knows. It's up to them to go with a manager who has their best interests in mind so hopefully that's what is going on here. If not, well then they'll self-destruct and disappear.
Honestly, unless it was one of the guys in Sharks themselves who gave you the story, I wouldn't totally put too much stock into what someone else has to say about what goes on.

| I get what you are saying. and Like i said, this changes nothing about their music but still if what I was told is true...then it sucks and being "young" is not an excuse to let someone basically control the way the band is being shaped.
also no way the Sharks would ever admit this. even if it was true.
also maybe it's just my punk diy ethic that thinks all this is wrong. |
