Greetings all,
This thread really has nothing to do with Jersey tomatoes - just thought the title would be catchy. Anyhow, greetings, salutations, regards, hugs, wavy emoticons and all of that... from the great Garden State. I am a long-time fan of Brian Fallon and his music grows nearer and dearer to my heart as the years pass, and yes, my name really is Mary Ann.

Welcome Mary Ann!
I see your hands, stillness as the summer goes down. Rocksteady, I know you won't let me down.

Welcome Mary Ann - and I agree. Nothing like a Jersey Tomato! Maybe that'll be one of Brian's new songs

Thank you, everyone, for the welcome. Njguy99, yes, there IS nothing quite like a Jersey tomato! (Except perhaps sweet corn.) And I agree, it does sound like a band, or a song title.
I'm not sure why the phrase crossed my mind -- seemed rather random at first -- but "Jersey tomato" is actually an old Jersey farmers' phrase for a beautiful, young, classy woman. The implication is that she is a prize winner, ready for picking, but only those with strong and yet tender hands would dare touch her, as only certain men could appreciate how carefully one must handle a tomato. The same principle/meaning applies to the phrase, "Jersey Peach" .
I'm not sure if anyone but old farmers would know the terms anymore, and I'm afraid I'm showing my age in even telling the back story.

That's a neat story about the origin and meaning of "Jersey Tomato". I had no idea what it meant when I first saw it. I was thinking it was a weird name for a band or something just like Steph had thought!

I LOVE THAT ORIGIN.
Also, I can't believe the name Mary Ann hadn't been taken before this past week. LOL

I just read something on Twitter about a guy that wanted to create a tomato patch in New Jersey. Weird coincidence, but welcome!

Unfortunately it appears the name "Jersey Tomato" as an album is taken...
Jersey Tomato - the Album
Which leads to my hope, and wish, that one day Brian will cover "I'm from New Jersey" by John Gorka.
