| He just changed majors, actually. He doesn't know what his emphasis is yet, but he's now majoring in Lit. |

UCSC is such a creative environment, I thought maybe he was a music or art major or something along those lines. I briefly considered minoring in Lit when I was in college, but my focus shifted to preschool education and I ended up switching schools, so that thought went out the window.

| Jimmy, you're only 20! You could still go to college if you wanted to. My aunt didn't go to college until she was in her forties, and now she has a masters degree and is a very successful nutritionalist. It's never to late to further your education.
If you did go to college, what would you like to study?

| University is definitely an experience that you shouldn't miss out on. You meet so many cool new people, and age doesn't matter at all. You can be the older guy who buys everyone beer | |

You could just start out taking general courses until you decided what you wanted to study. Now this might sound weird coming from a teacher, but I don't think everyone should go to college. It's not for every person, especially right out of high school. I know a lot of people who didn't go to college and are very knowledgeable, successful people, and plenty of people who are total losers who did get their degree and haven't used it a day in their lives. A college education does not guarantee anything anymore, unfortunately. What's important is knowledge, and we can learn a lot outside of the classroom. The world around us is the best teacher we can have. Corny, I know, but it's true.

| Yeah you shouldn't go to college because you're supposed to.
Have you considered a trade school? There's always gonna be a need for craftsmen and it's way cheaper than college.

One of my cousins went to a trade school to become a mechanic on luxury cars like BMWs, Mercedes, etc., and he loved it. He has a great job now and owns his own house, and he's like, 23 years old. Pretty cool.

A college education does not guarantee anything anymore, unfortunately. What's important is knowledge, and we can learn a lot outside of the classroom. The world around us is the best teacher we can have. Corny, I know, but it's true. This is all semi true, but the thing is, you can't get a decent job anymore with out a college degree. My moms friends who is like a genius. She could of been a lawyer, college professor, even a C.E.O if she tried- basically she could of had a job making big bucks. But she doesnt have a degree, so places won't higher her. Yes the world can be the best teacher, but if you don't have a stupid piece of paper saying you can do it, places don't want you. So basically two people could go for a job, one with a degree, one with out. The guy, with out a degree, is insanely smart. The other one is an idiot compared to it. The idiot is the one who gets the job, because of the degree. - unfortunately, that's the way it works. But I will say in this economy also, a degree won't help you get a job. But you still cant get (a good) one with out it.

| You make some good points, Andrew. Yes, a stupid piece of paper means more than intelligence and experience combined, which doesn't make any sense, but that's the way it is. I think it all boils down to what you want out of a job. There are a lot of people out there who are happy starting at the bottom in a company and working their way up to the middle (no degree needed), doing a normal blue collar job or a simple desk job. That's the world I come from. You might not make a ton of money or have a fancy title, but as long as you're happy, that's what matters the most. I only have my two-year degree, even though I orignally planned to go for my masters. I basically got burned out and wanted to experience working full-time instead of taking tests and being stuck in a classroom. It was the best decision I ever made. But, I'm not normal. I have never done things the way I'm "supposed to". I like it that way. | |

| So, just here to say for a little bit. Snow came down, winter made his entry, in the end. One hour, 4 inches of snow. -15 outside. It's freezing, so just popping by, going to jump behind the fire again. Just wanted to say i'm doing fine, and fuck yea weekend! Goodday/night everybody! Stay hungry, stay free | |

| Yeah I didn't really know how to word it nor wanted to go on for a long time. But if I added more, your response, would basically be the rest of my viewpoint. Because, like you said, in the end all that matters is that you're happy. | |
