| I reckon we should have individual song threads for the Crowes, just like we have for gaslight.
So anyways, Crush ends with the line "God's gonna trouble the water", which is a reference to "Wade in the water".

| and for the lazy people, here's more info about Wade in the Water : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wade_in_the_Water and it's not just the last line, but the whole last verse is from the same old Gospel song: If you get there before I do God's gonna trouble the water Tell all of my friends I'm coming too God's gonna trouble the water | |

It has a really cool feel to it. I can't explain why, but the vocal melody reminds me of U2 somehow.

| I thought the same thing about U2 as well. U2 has a big gospel influence in some of their material so that could be why. I also think Brian sounds a bit like Bono in some of the quieter moments of the album.

| Brian is a very religious person and gospil and soul religious music ,I believe, ran deep with his mother or grand mother (maybe both? From family is what im getting at) who he learned it from(I'm going off memories of interviews so might be a little off) so it makes sense he used it. He's said Mary Ann is a great example of that root he grew up around.
Its funny I had to tell my brother that it was from that song, I thought it was a pretty well known verse/song
Interesting fact 1930 (or `she could a raised the titanic` as some know it) was about his grand mother who he was very close with -I have read

| Anyone else think this is the weakest song on the album? Note that when I saw weak, I mean Brian Fallon weak - something like American Slang or Angry Johnny (sorry I know a bunch of you kids love that one) which are solid songs but just pale in comparison to the rest of his catalog. The ending where he goes all gospel on us its pretty good, but it really just doesn't do anything for me like the rest of the songs on the album do. | |

| its like Ian said in an interview he hopes this will be an album that immidiately you'll have a favorite song, but every couple listens that favorite song will change- an album that changes with time basically, and I already see that happening with me. So one persons favorite is going to be different from someone else's, but maybe not for long | |

what am i missing about blossoms? Beautiful melody, some great lines. i do think it could have been better though. the chorus isn't very chorus-y and the bridge isn't all that fantastic.

| I don't agree with telling people what to like so don't take this as that and I'm trying to be as non bias as I cani personally love all of Elsie but I understand people who dont-its different from tga
Blossoms is a very lyricall strong song(which a lot of people like strong lyrical songs I.e Brian fallon fans) And its also sung and played in this very heart felt way
It also has that strong outroish part which really ties the whole song together musically.
It really goes from person to person but I think those play a part for most people Also take into account people who can relate to the song, personally(ex. blood loss for me) that plays a big part as well

| it's been mentioned in another thread that that last verse has also lines from another slave song, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". however, "Swing Low" and "Wade in the Water" have both pretty much the same lines:
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot:
If you get there before I do Coming for to carry me home Tell all my friends I'm coming too Coming for to carry me home
Sometimes I'm up and sometimes I'm down Coming for to carry me home But still my soul feels heavenly bound Coming for to carry me home
Wade in the Water:
Now if you should get there before I do, God's gonna trouble the water Tell all my friends that I'm comin' too, God's gonna trouble the water Sometimes I'm up lord and sometimes I'm down, God's gonna trouble the water Sometimes I'm level to the ground, God's gonna trouble the water
my point is... i don't know, i don't have a point. just read this if you're interested: http://bridgetower.lgfl.org.uk/lesson4/assets/Lesson%20Card%204.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wade_in_the_Water http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_Low,_Sweet_Chariot

| I guess your would be point it could be either song, or even both that influenced him, I guess the only way to find out is asking Brian himself
Thanks for bringing the swing low to my attention, didn't know that one was part of it

| I like this song more and more with each listen. It's not quite as deep, in my opinion, as some of the other songs, but it's catchy and sticks in my head. Favorite line is "God's gonna trouble the water." Gives me goosebumps... | |

| I don't really understand why people are saying it's not deep! I think it's awesome, the chorus isn't his strong suit, but it's still great! the message behind hte song is AWESOME! | |
