Your Elsie Review

I created this thread so people can discuss about their thoughts on the songs and the album itself..

Was just about to make this thread, haha. Haven't heard her yet, but I'm really excited to read what you guys think of Elsie

A feeling of absolute salvation.

You know, this has been one shitstorm of a summer. Some good, too much bad. This record is the light at the end of the tunnel I've been trying to get through.

first listen thru and I think my favorite track is "Go Tell Everybody"

the album as a whole feels short.

It didn't feel short to me, aside from the inevitable wanting it to be longer.

This is breathtaking.

This is definitely a huge departure from Gaslight. Only listened one time through, but sexy as hell sounds pretty accurate to me.

I had a friend saying it sounded like Gaslight based on BTH. I didn't agree then, and I certainly don't agree now.

If this music and Gaslight's music were two people, this person would be bitter and vengeful and drinking whiskey to fuel the tired sadness; the other person would be like "woah, easy bro, life's short and you ain't gettin' any younger, let's drive around and grab some beers, yeah?"

Probably album of the year so far. The Horrible Crowes just blew everyone out of the water. On my second listen through it's only getting better.

It's a really heavy album though. Kind of like the National's "High Violet." It's hard to not get sad while listening to it.

Any comparison to high violet is a winner for me

anyone hear the similarity between Old Haunts and I Witnessed a Crime?

I know from previous TGA albums that it's a mistake to ascribe a rating after the first or even second listens, so I just have to say, IT'S GREAT. Eventually I'll probably go through and review each song, like we did with American Slang.

After two full listens, I have to declare the album brilliant. The only song that doesn't really hit me is "I Believe Jesus Brought Us Together," but it's not a terrible track. Elsie is an album that really comes together on every level, from the songwriting all the way to the mixing. It exceeds even the loftiest expectations I had for it.

Can't wait for the vinyl to give it the proper listen it deserves!

I just went down to the record store and they said they had a grand total of 3 CDs an no vinyl arriving tomorrow morning. I asked them to put one aside for me so expect some ramblings of mine tomorrow.

Sounds great so far. Can't wait to get the CD on tuesday.

The kind of albums you need to give a few listens to really appreciate. Don't get me wrong, i already like it after only one listen.

The girlfriend will love.

My record store will only have a big total of...ONE. It's already reserved under my name.

I was actually thinking about going to the record store I used to go to tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Totally agree. Whoever is in charge of picking the previews kind of botched it.
