| Did rock-throwing teenage girl's 'beating' by police spark London riots? Pictures that show how Tottenham turned into a war zone. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2023254/Tottenham-riot-Mark-Duggan-shooting-sparked-police-beating-girl.html | |

| London has quite a tradition of people rioting for all sorts of reasons. You can read all about it in Then, of course, there are the Clash's 'White Riot' and 'The Guns of Brixton'. | |

| Wow--a Tourist guide to Riot Sites. Brilliant!
Sadly, as I look out my office window, I can see the site of Jacksonville's notorious "Ax-Handle Riot," during the 60s when white racists attacked innocent blacks who just wanted the freedom our Constitution guaranteed them.
"That [Ax Handle Saturday] shows what happens when white folk and black folk don't talk. It also forced this community to own up to some of the racial problems it was having," Hurst said.

someone described this as 'recreational rioting' but bored kids alone don't make a riot, nor does one police shooting - what appears to underlie this is a growing lack of respect, both for authority and for each other, for which I blame those at the top who should inspire respect - when politicians and bankers are seen to indulge in their own versions of looting, why should Joe Public not do a spot of bog standard looting themselves?

That is absolutely true, some of the people at the top are no better! it's just horrible to see some innocent families lives be ruined by these riots

| The trouble is these days is there is no respect for anything or anybody, nice advert for the country , and what an advert for next years Olympics ! As the rest of the world watches on , we watch as the UK turns into a third world country. Maybe it will take the army to sort it out because the so called men at the top or the police cant do it. | |

| London rioters: 'Showing the rich we do what we want'
9 August 2011 Last updated at 08:35 ET Help
Two girls who took part in Monday night's riots in Croydon have boasted that they were showing police and "the rich" that "we can do what we want".
The pair who were drinking wine looted from a local shop at 09:30 BST on Tuesday morning, spoke to the BBC's Leana Hosea.
Croydon was one of several areas plagued by unrest on Monday night, on a third night of riots in the capital.

| I don't look at this as a reflection on the British at all. I look at it as a bunch of losers starting up pointless chaos. | |

Can't help but think about Frank Turner's "Tatcher Fucked The Kids" for some reason.

| It's really hard to comprehend what's going on.
Indeed this has no longer to do with the police shooting, this has been lurking for years to happen.

| People in the U.K. are lucky in one regard--the do NOT have Rush Limbaugh there--right?
Why are the London riots happening? If you guessed “hooliganism” is to blame, you are only partially correct — at least according to Rush Limbaugh.
During his radio program Tuesday, Limbaugh said hooliganism is only the “result” but not the reason for, the riots spreading throughout Britain. And that the real reasons behind the U.K. riots are the same reasons cited by Obama voters who blame the “rich” for all the world’s ills.
Limbaugh then played “the why” — a BBC interview of two women protesters who flat-out said that the riots are happening because of conservatives, rich people, and business owners. “We’re just showing the rich people we can do what we want,” said one woman.
This being the same tune, Limbaugh states, that is sung by Obama voters.

| U.K. to Shut Down Social Networks During Riots & Times of Unrest
The prime minister has signalled a major shift in emphasis on crime policy in the wake of the riots which have affected parts of England in the past week.
In an emergency meeting of the House of Commons, David Cameron indicated that the police could be given powers to shut down social networks during times of unrest, and widen officers' remit to compel people to remove face coverings.
"This is a time for our country to pull together," said Cameron, praising those who had taken to the streets to defend their communities from thugs. He also mentioned those who had taken to the streets of Enfield in north London, without criticising what some people have branded vigilantism.
